Passat named a 'best family car'

The Chattanooga-made Volkswagen Passat has been named a "best family car" of 2012 by Parents magazine and Edmunds.com.

In addition to test-driving, analyzing, and comparing prices and features, Parents and Edmunds.com consulted parents who own vehicles on their list, the automaker said in a press release.

The Passat was lauded for "its impressive list of features and space offered at an accessible price point."

"Larger, more fuel efficient and more affordable than ever before, VW's redesigned Passat isn't just built in America, it's built for Americans," Scott Oldham, editor in chief of Edmunds.com said in a statement. "The sedan now offers one of the largest backseats in its class and still delivers the upscale, German-engineered ambiance Volkswagen vehicles are famous for."

Parents and Edmunds.com included the Passat among the sedan category in their Best Family picks of 2012. Each car on the list was judged on performance, interior, exterior and family-friendly features.
