Free foot screening

Foot examinations and screening in June, July and August at Rehab South Physical Therapy (all locations). Specialty guidance offered for therapies and stretching exercises to alleviate foot pain and disorders. Allow 15 minutes for screening. Call to schedule screening at 877-4599.


Caregivers meeting

The Caregivers Group meets 1:30 p.m., June 14, at St. Peters Episcopal Church in the Bracewell Room, 484 Ashland Terrace. The speaker is Bob Cutrer, M.D., of McCallie School, a health and wellness expert. His focus is "Taking Care of the Caregiver." All are welcome. For information call 877-2428.


T'ai Ji

T'ai Ji Heals Workshop, 9 a.m.-4 p.m., June 23, at the Chattanooga Nature Center and Arboretum Auditorium, 400 Garden Road. This six-hour course led by Chris Campbell will provide six continuing education credits for Tennessee Massage Therapist's License requirements and the T'ai Ji Teacher Certification. Breast cancer seminar

Nutrition, fitness and lifestyle options for breast cancer survivors will be featured at a free seminar, June 16, 9 a.m.-noon, at UTC University Center. Presented by Breast Cancer Support Services (formerly Y-ME Chattanooga) and sponsored by Mary Ellen Locher Breast Center. Autism symposium

Lee University will host its 10th annual Southeastern Autism Symposium "Diamonds are Forever ... So is Autism: From Rough Cut to Precious Gem," 9 a.m.-3 p.m. June 21 and 8 a.m.-2:30 p.m. June 22, in the Helen DeVos College of Education. Keynote speaker is Dr. Vincent Carbone, noted for his autism research and treatment. Several breakout sessions offered. Event concludes with a luncheon on Friday. On June 21, there will be an all-day workshop with Carbone entitled "Increasing Speech Production of Children with Autism." Workshop limited to 30 registrants. Wellness Summit

A Wellness Summit will be held Sunday and Monday at Southern Adventist University. Keynote speakers include Mike Huckabee, former governor of Arkansas, who lost 110 pounds through lifestyle changes, and Neil Nedley, author and medical director of the Nedley Depression Recovery Program. Weight-loss surgery

The Gastric Band Institute will hold free seminars on gastric banding (Lap-Band and Realize Band) and the new sleeve procedure for people 75 pounds overweight, on Wednesday, 11:30 a.m., and on July 18, 5:30 p.m., at the Gastric Band Institute, 7405 Shallowford Road (education room). Breast-feeding

Diabetes

Diabetes Self-Management Program will be held June 14, 3:30-8 p.m., at Diabetes and Nutrition Center at Memorial Hospital. This program provides an overview of diabetes, treatment and prevention of complications, diabetes meal planning and carbohydrate counting.
