Player of the Year

Baylor
Senior
Scarpa had his most consistent season in his third year at Baylor, winning the Division II-AA East/Middle region singles tournament. He advanced to the state semifinals before falling to eventual champ Walker Sims of Memphis University School. He was runner-up at No. 1 singles at the Rotary Invitational Tournament, and was also named to the Decoturf National Championships' all-tournament singles team. It is the Mercer University signee's third consecutive season on the Best of Preps team.
Coach of the Year
Joe Chung
Collegedale
Seventh Season
Chung's Eagles almost achieved every goal they had set out for at the beginning of the 2012 season. Although winning District 5-A/AA had been almost an annual occurrence the past few seasons, the team had never advanced past the region, usually falling to either Chattanooga Christian or Arts & Sciences. This season, they had to defeat both - CSAS in the region tournament and CCS in the sectional - to advance to their first-ever state tournament. The Eagles finished second in the A/AA state tournament, falling to Unicoi County in the final. He thanked assistant coach Steve Kulik, as well as his wife Victoria for their contributions.
"We've had camaraderie at the end of the season, but this year we had it from the beginning," he said. "We got some tennis courts at Collegedale this year, and we started having a lot of people show up at our matches and there was a lot of buzz about tennis this season. The guys worked hard and pushed each other; I told them that great players aren't born great, that they work at it and the guys stepped up.
"We played as individuals, but we fought as a team and I'm very proud of them."
