The newspaper's newly hired Free Press opinion editor was the victim of a mean-spirited Internet prank Saturday.
Drew Johnson has been named opinion editor for the Free Press editorial page.Someone sent inappropriate, offensive and vulgar Tweets under the name of Drew Johnson, who takes over the Free Press page June 26.
Johnson was surprised to learn of the Tweets Saturday night. He has Tweeted on behalf of a think tank where he once worked, but didn't have a personal Twitter account. As a result of the bogus account, late Saturday night he started his own Twitter account, @Drews_Views.
Johnson said he has some suspicions about who is behind the bogus account.
"When your job is to be a watchdog and tell the truth about politicians, you make a few enemies," he Tweeted under his newly created account. He has contacted Twitter about getting the bogus account removed, but it may take a few days.
