Chattanooga State Community College Vice President and former Howard School Principal Elaine Swafford has announced her appointment as director of the Chattanooga Girls Leadership Academy.

"I believe all children can learn at high levels," she said today.

One of her first duties as director of the all-girls charter school, she said, will be to find out what interests her students so she can expose them to the local college and work opportunities that will inspire them to achieve.

Swafford also said she will examine how the school staff can tailor instruction and measure growth for students as individuals.

"We are confident in Dr. Swafford's leadership. Her experience, expertise and knowledge will undoubtedly strengthen and transform the lives of girls and young women in Hamilton County. She understands how educational opportunity can change the life of a child for the better," wrote CGLA co-founder Sue Anne Wells in a news release.
