Arts Gala in Athens Saturday

Friday, January 1, 1904

The 28th annual Arts Gala, sponsored by the Athens Area Council for the Arts Auxiliary, will be the place to be for "Guys and Dolls" Saturday.

The gala, set for 7 p.m.-midnight at The Arts Center in downtown Athens, Tenn., will transform the Sue E. Trotter Theater into the Black Box Club, continuing a theme introduced by the community theater's latest production. Cast members will be present in costume to perform two songs from the show.

The Arts Gala features silent and live auctions of artists' work and other contributions by businesses and individuals. Auction items include a variety of offerings from artwork to trips to jewelry.

The evening also will include a cocktail buffet and music by the McMinn County High School Jazz Band, followed by the dance band The Beaters.

Proceeds from this celebration of the arts are earmarked to support school and community education in the arts.

Tickets are $80 per person. Dressy attire is suggested.

Tickets are available at The Arts Center, 320 N. White St., by phone at 423-745-8781 or online at www.athensartscouncil.org.
