Murray County deputy charged with DUI

A Murray County sheriff's deputy was arrested Friday night and charged with driving under the influence and for having an open container in the car, reports show.

A Dalton officer pulled Deputy Stephanie Ensley over at 11:45 p.m. as she was weaving back and forth on the North Bypass and driving without her headlights on, a Dalton police incident report shows.

The smell of alcohol was coming from the vehicle and Ensley told the officer she had been drinking in Chattanooga with her friend, the passenger in the car, the report shows. She told the officer she was a deputy and there was a gun in the glove box of her car, the report states.

The gun was taken as evidence.

A sobriety test was conducted and Ensley failed, the report said.

Ensley was charge with DUI, having an open container, driving without headlights and failure to maintain lane.

Murray County Sheriff's office authorities weren't immediately available for comment.
