War on Religion

about Clay Bennett...

The son of a career army officer, Bennett led a nomadic life, attending ten different schools before graduating in 1980 from the University of North Alabama with degrees in Art and History. After brief stints as a staff artist at the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette and the Fayetteville (NC) Times, he went on to serve as the editorial cartoonist for the St. Petersburg Times (1981-1994) and The Christian Science Monitor (1997-2007), before joining the staff of the ...

Fellow Americans (Conservatives). Do not fall into this trap of these disgusting liberals attacking religion and churches. Religion and churches will never go away regardless of how hard these atheist liberals try to destroy them. These disgusting liberals and this pathetic president believe in churches but only if they preach their liberal socialist agenda. They are that pathetic. Clay is apparently saying that dummycrats do not attend church by placing the symbol of the Republican Party on top of the church in this cartoon. I can believe that. Liberals do not believe in anything greater than themselves and even view as God being in the way of their socialist liberal agenda. They are that disgusting and self serving. By the way I attend the Episcopal church. But shhhh, I do not want to be arrested for going to church.

Again Clay is taking attention away from the real issues facing this country. Why does he not make a cartoon of Obama's massive debt, high gas prices, high unemployment, this pathetic presidents war in Afghanistan, the remaining troops in Iraq, the first downgrading of America's credit rating, his failed energy policy, no budget in 3 years, and many other failures of this pathetic president and his disgusting liberal policies. Where are these cartoons? Clay and his disgusting liberal followers are to weak minded to actually address the real issues facing this country.

By the way did you know the two things that are the biggest obstacle to Communism? The middle class and religion and this pathetic president and the disgusting liberals that worship him are destroying both.

joneses - nobody is going to arrest you for going to church, at least not as a consequence of policies promoted by the current administration.

And, if you attend the Episcopal church, I would think you would understand that the church ought to be about proclaiming the Gospel. Political messages do not belong in the pulpit because the church has more important things to say. The real war on Christianity is being waged by those who preach politics rather than abiding by the great commission.

When the country is going through real hardship, the fake messages the parties have always put out look even more disconnected.

It also takes some real cajones to propose cutting food stamps during a severe recession - especially if you are fighting at the same time for tax breaks for the wealthy. Seriously, guys? You really want to go there?

The political class now consists almost entirely people who have never worried for one day in their lives about a lack food on the table or keeping roof over their head.

The country now has more people who have faced those problems directly than in the previous four generations.

I found a nice set of graphs showing where government support money actually goes. The two maps I found interesting were income support (showing areas of poverty) compared against unemployment insurance (showing areas of job losses). The Medicare map also shows where the elderly Americans are living.

Oh yes the booming Wall Street & The Greatest car manufacturer on earth GM. Blackwater, please stop the insanity. I wonder why the administration didn't bail out Kodak? With all their innovation and patent rich technology holdings the same question could be asked? Can America survive without Kodak? What put GM back in the game came off the backs of their dedicated employees, retirees, and stockholders. Just like the United States, GM and Kodak, have in GM's case and are in Kodak's, the UNFUNDED LIABILITIES that caused the financial shortcomings. Promises made that were unrealistic and not possible in today,s economy. No one could have ever predicted back in the time these deals were cemented that medical costs would rise to today's costs and continue with the sky being the limit not to mention $4.00 gas and a loaf of bread being sold for $3.50. It makes the term Health Care Reform laughable even for the most challenged math student. Every American taxpayer owes over $1,000,000 to balance our unfunded liabilities of Medicare, Prescription Drug Benefits and Social Security. The total amount is approaching $150,000,000,000,000. That's TRILLION. Social Security is only $15 Trillion of that number. Did I say only? Perhaps it is affecting me too. Allowing GM to abandon their financial responsibilities to their employees, past and present, along with their stockholders has allowed a new day for a very poorly run American corporation. Remember the government bailed out GM so they wouldn't file bankruptcy so in return they did file bankruptcy simply to shed their financial responsibility they made to the people who made the company what it was. Their employees. You gotta love this new America! Also their stock price does not reflect the glowing review you claim this administration has delivered for the financial salvation of the company. And we taxpayers still continue to hold a major share of stock in this wonderful American giant. BW48, if you really want to help, be a man, buy a VOLT!

Now you mention Rush calling someone a slut. If that was the worst verbal assault upon an individual across our radio and television airways I would feel much better as a citizen of this nation. But I must move along the lines of his apology and say shame on you Rush. Unlike some of the fringe on the other side at least he was man enough to realize his offensive language was hurtful and unwarranted and was MAN enough to do the right thing. APOLOGIZE!

As for religion, it is simply another man made tax exempt corporation fleecing Americans of their hard earned money in exchange for the privilege of listening to the ideas of another mortal that is living a lifestyle they could never provide for themselves. It's good work if you can get it.

March 11, 2012 at 10:53 a.m.

whatsthefuss, the government did not bail-out GM and Chrysler to prevent any bankruptcy. They bailed them out to prevent a unstructured bankruptcy that would have lead to liquidation, and instead allow them to go through a managed one. And for what it's worth, the Republicans are still quite upset that the workers got to keep equity in the company, so I don't know why you're indignant in the opposite direction. Which one of you is correct?

But no, Rush did not admit his language was shameful. He insisted on the righteousness on his cause. His apology was like that of a bully who says "I'm sorry you let your face get in the way of my fist" with no genuine recognition or acknowledgement of his misconduct.

Look what he said in his first paragraph: "I did not mean a personal attack on Ms. Fluke." which tells me that he's completely ducking his own words. He did not do the right thing. He denied doing meaning to do anything wrong. Read the end: My choice of words was not the best, and in the attempt to be humorous, I created a national stir. I sincerely apologize to Ms. Fluke for the insulting word choices." Exactly where in that can I find him saying he did the wrong thing? Saying "not the best" is a long way from admitting the true wrongness of his conduct.

Don't keep selling that story. Rush's apology is inadequate. He would have to be oblivious to the impact of his words, and if that is the case, he has no business being on the airwaves.

blackwater48, it's not amnesia that's the problem. It's willful delusion. It's not that they forget, it's that they see things that aren't there.

mtjohn the GOP platform is a war against every Christian who believes that the prophet, Amos, has something important to say to 21st Century Americans.

It took me a few minutes to read Amos and you may be onto something. Amos 2-6 ends with I will not turn away the punishment thereof; because they sold the righteous for silver and the poor for a pair of shoes. 8-5 talks about falsifying the balance and cheating the poor 7-8 I will set a plumbline in the midst of my people that I will not pass by them any more. Let's not talk about the real issues. Let's misrepresent the opposition so we can try to claim the high ground. You can be pretty sure that nothing of value will come out of this forum, especially since the talking points presented by Bennett start from a misrepresentation.

Although the many democrats might think their party is the party of the people, they are wrong. Their policies are leading to a crippled economy that will leave the majority less prosperous and the ultra-rich unscathed, positioned to control an even greater percentage of wealth.

Even though the democrats might think their party is the party of the environment, they are wrong. A nation needs to be wealthy in order to be able to afford the luxury of being environmentally responsible. When the monetary system collapses due to unsupportable debt from uncontrolled spending and give-aways the environment is going to suffer as the population does what is necessary to drag itself out of the mire.

At least the republican's pretend that they strive for fiscal restraint and measured regulation. The democrats have their constituents worked into a state of emotional fury that is enabling their party to pursue destructive ends. The only ones that stand to benefit from this strategy are the demokrat ruling class and the ultra-wealthy that they are in bed with. Soros and his kind are laughing their a$$ off at the jealous masses that are enabling their vision.

This forum is the perfect example of the division that threatens to bring this country down. Emotion, hyperbole, misrepresentation pits people against each other using a system of lies that has been built to separate us so we can be controlled. Bennett is nothing more than a hapless puppet in this game.

Looks like I hit a nerve. I guess you're one of those "hopping mad, flame-throwing, angry at the world voters who believe America is swirling down the economic toilet, everything is Obama's fault, and the only way to save the Country is to elect a republican."

Loved your opinions. Wish you had included even one fact, but hey, why start now?

I didn't defend Obama or give the democrats a pass. I just pointed out that the republican answer to everything from high unemployment to low unemployment, from high interest rates to low interest rates, from high gas prices or low gas prices, from importing more oil or less, from trade imbalance to tariffs, from bull markets to bear, is to cut taxes on the richest people in the country for no apparent reason.

When the country is suffering weak aggregate demand the GOP answer is give more money to the rich. It's as if you never heard the term before. Hint: when economic demand is weak it's a good idea to make it stronger. Like cut taxes on working class families, invest more money into infrastructure projects, etc., but republicans always answer NO! Give more to the rich!

A foolish consistency is the hobgoblin of little minds...

March 11, 2012 at 12:09 p.m.

BigRidge you're post is right on. That's all this forum is under Clay Bennett's cartoons. He simply draws a cartoon blasting Republicans and anyone else who is not a liberal and the Obama zombies on here go on a feeding frenzy.

Bennett is preaching to the choir and that's all it is. The insufferable, liberal know it alls on here only have one purpose, and that is to defend Obama.

Bennett sets the tone by nearly always posting a cartoon that revolves around how stupid and bad anyone is who is not a liberal.

After observing Obama for 3 years there is no doubt to me that he is purposely dividing people. What all the liberals on here label as divisive is really someone having a different opinion or political philosophy. In other words, if you don't agree with us you're stupid and are dividing the country.

March 11, 2012 at 12:17 p.m.

BigRidgePatriot, you just demonstrated exactly what your initial paragraph complained about. Misrepresenting the opposition so YOU can claim the high ground.

Like how you claim that it's the Democrats driving by emotional fury. I guess you've never noticed your own sides fear-mongering?

The real demonstration is how you think you're not part of the problem, but are instead protesting it, while engaging in the worst forms of it yourself.

See for example, the gushing admiration you got from blondebutnotdumb, who cheers you on as she engages in the division and antagonism you profess to oppose. If you truly do, repudiate that support.

It also includes a belief in fantasy, and a reshaping of reality to fit ones preconceived notions and avoid threatening your ego. And yes, it's quite common in Cult Leaders and members.

But no, I don't believe there's any hope of persuading anybody by my words. Your words, though, I hope they convince everybody just how terribly wrong you are.

Then again, I think such stalwarts such as rolando, joneses and conservative might be false-flag operations whose conduct is meant to create an image of mendacity for the right-wing.

Maybe you should speak out against them. You've had the opportunity. Why haven't you?

That perspective is un-American and contrary to our Constitution. Filthy liar. Does the phrase 'with us or against us' ring a bell? How about Republicans standing on the bodies of the 9/11 victims for political gain? How about the Southern Strategy? Class warfare? I hope that the people who read this forum do not think that Joneses represents the Episcopal church. During the service of Baptism, the Priest asks a series of questions to which the people respond 'I will, with Gods help'. This is called the Baptisimal Covenant. The last question is:

Priest says: Will you strive for justice and peace among all people, and respect the dignity of every human being? People respond: I will, with God’s help.

Page 305 Book of Common Prayer.

To respect the dignity of every human being includes people with whom you disagree. I hardly think that calling names like 'Libtard' or 'Repugnate' is respectful.

Unfortunately a lot of 'Christians' have read John 3:16, but have not read anything else in the Bible. If you read what Jesus said, he was a pretty radical guy. He was far more concerned about the poor and disenfanchised than about the powerful.

Assuming you went to church this morning, you might have noticed a peculiar irony with the timing of today's cartoon. The Gospel lesson for today in the congregations that follow the revised common lectionary - that would include the Episcopalians - was John's account of the cleansing of the temple. A liberal’s mind is run on an emotional level. They always like to feel good about what they do for people. The ones that get elected will create government programs that they think that will benefit people. Programs like; Social Security, Medicare, Medicate, The Great Society, and now the biggest boondoggle of them all, Obamacare. (Lets pass this bill so we can see what’s in it) Are the liberal intentions honorable? Yes! Did they think their programs through? No! The above listed have all failed and Obamacare will fail also. It will be run with the efficiency of the Post Office and have the compassion of the IRS. To really make this point simple lets use the old Give them fish or teach them to fish analogy. The Liberal = “I’m so proud of myself, I was fishing and I gave that family the fish that I caught. I feel so wonderful.” Now what this liberal didn’t think about was the next day and the day after that when he has to catch more and more fish, and more and more people keep coming. (See Below Part II)

Part II The conservative’s mind is run on a logically mind, and is this the right thing to do. The ones that get elected feel that people want to have the dignity of working and keeping more of what they earn, and not giving a larger portion to their Local, State, and Federal Governments for the wasted programs. They know that there is socialism in portions of government and they do want to pay for services that they cannot do for themselves. The conservatives look at a program, use logic and common sense and ask themselves, “Will this work out in the long run? Will this turn into a boondoggle that out children and grandchildren will have to pay for?” They know that there are people in this Country that truly need help from the governments and it has always been called a safety net. When they hear liberal say that they (conservatives) throw grannies off of cliffs, have to eat dog food, they are hurt by this because they know it is not true. The safety net will always be there for people. The conservative will show people how to fish and will feel happy that they taught people a skill that will give them the dignity of work. They feel good that that man can rise a family now on his skill. They look at a new born baby, of any race ,and think that this baby is capable of anything that America can offer them. They don’t tell the parents of a child, “your child can’t amount to anything because America will keep that child down. You are a victim.” The parent(s) then have someone to blame, are now off the hook in raising a responsible children, the child is also a victim, and they will all have someone to blame for their lot in America. Conservatives know that the babies born and the ones that were slaughter by abortion can and could have let successful lives. They could have been the ones that found a cure for cancer, aids Etc. But thye never got the chance. They are victims or the ones that were killed are now with God. Was Jesus a liberal? Would Jesus keep handing out fish or would he teach the follower how to fish?

I think what timbo is trying to say is that we don't need to make some kind of radical shift in policy during this delicate recovery process. Can you imagine the uncertainty and accompanying loss of consumer confidence if we were to jump ship at this tenuous economic moment? We're pounding the rock, making first downs and managing the clock as we drive for the win. The last thing we need to do is panic and go to the air, risking an interception. This is the timbo/Tebow juxtaposition.

I think what BRP is trying to say is that it's okay for us to trash the administration, as long as we privately vote for the President in November. Lord knows none of the people I deal with in my daily life know my politics. They're too rabid. That's an important lesson for the wives of conservative men. Say what you must to keep from getting beaten, and then cancel out their votes on election day! Have an affair with the truth!

Obama is a divider, i'm 100% convinced he is. Not only that, he is all about big government. It should be foremost in our lives.

March 11, 2012 at 6:17 p.m.

BobMKE, you have it half right about conservatives (and wholly wrong about liberals). Conservatives certainly proclaim their logic, but they really only have their rationalizations which they use to justify their driving emotions. Namely feelings of resentment and fear. For example, they see someone getting a fishing pole (because teaching is only half the job), and think that pole must have been stolen from them. And really, letting somebody else fish? That means they might eat your fish! Better fish out the pond! Wait, now there's no fish for anybody? The conservative thinks that it's good they didn't listen to that liberal telling them to practice some conservation.

And when you look at a pregnant mother, you better see a ring on her finger, or she's clearly at fault. Not the man, though, just the woman. And if she can't care for her baby, it's really best to punish her instead of doing anything positive.

Because as we all know, abuse is the best way to bring out performance, not support and understanding. That is why the conservative teaching method for fishing involves throwing people into the water and ducking them under till drown.

BTW, you keep repeating that line from Pelosi, but you never seem to learn what it means. Why don't you try parsing it logically? Pelosi referenced the misrepresentations about the law leading to people not being able to perceive it accurately. How would you treat someone fed a diet of lies and falsehoods? More deceit? Or would you let them find out the truth through direct exposure?

Over the past 58 years, voters have consistently elected presidents, senators and congressman who promised to cut government spending, but it has never happened, not even once. As shown in my new book, "The People's Money," voters are ready to support the kind of long-term thoughtful changes needed to balance the budget and eliminate the federal debt. The only thing standing in the way of a solution is the nation's political leaders from both parties.

While most voters view excessive government spending as the problem, those who feel entitled to rule over the rest of us see the voters as the problem. And that's the real entitlement crisis facing the nation today. The political class wants to govern like it's 1775, a time when kings were kings and consent of the governed didn't matter.

Not at all. What I am trying to say is that I think we all want basically the same things but the political class is dividing us. If we are ever going to understand each other we are going to have dig into the issues and examine the core differences of opinion that are causing tension. When we jump to the conclusions that are offered to us by the political class we are immediately locked in a pattern of attacking each other with bitter platitudes.

Watch it here:

http://sojo.net/blogs/2011/09/15/jon-stewart-poors-fridges-microwaves-tvs-oh-my

Could they have been better? Couldn't everything? The US Constitution could've been better. The Bible could've. Shakespeare could've. If you want only perfect laws, then you're making a demand of me that I will forcefully decline. Because it's even more foolish than you believe precipitate action to be.

Your own repetition of that same line from Nancy Pelosi could be better, had you taken the time to realize what it meant instead of repeating it over and over as if it were persuasive. No, waiting would accomplish nothing, because the truth would not come out. Instead we'd have more lies and never a chance at truth. That's why you keep saying it, you don't even realize you are pushing a falsehood.

That law had been percolating since the mid-nineties. Reform itself had been an idea Nixon brought up in the seventies. All inaction did was put us in a continuing spiral of escalating health care costs and decreasing coverage. So I would rather have the flawed Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act we could get than the burdens imposed by your inactivity. Believe it or not, sometimes waiting till the perfect solution IS more costly than the imperfect. Yes, I would have preferred many changes to the law, but sometimes you take what you can get at the time instead of holding out for an ideal that may never come.

To be honest, I hope the Lord spares me from who YOU would vote into Washington. You have a lot of trite aphorisms which purport at some wisdom, but despite your proclaimed wisdom, I see you only looking at one side of the problem, the one which is convenient to you.

What do I mean? Simple, you're complaining about it not being perfect, without a thought to how bad it actually was. Where's your concern about what things would be like if NOTHING was done? Do you even give a thought to that? Or do you just expect us to wring our hands in despair while the house is burning because we don't have the perfect solution that will enable us to extinguish the flames without the astronomically remote possibility of the bucket of water accidentally being gasoline?

Not in my experience. You're already dividing, because you've taken one side, and you don't even see the other.

Do I see yours? You may not think so, but I do. I can respect your desire to have things better. Can you see mine? Can you even see how anything that was truly wrong about the law could be fixed?

Or do you sit in your life and wait, doing nothing, unless you get things perfect? If so, then we have a completely incompatible way of operating. And no, it doesn't have anything to do with any politicians, so don't go blaming them.

March 11, 2012 at 8:24 p.m.

ITguy, if you remember, Lincoln taught himself. Clearly they're living up to the ideal that he set. It's like reading a book, all you're saying is that you can't figure things out for yourself.

BTW, I once heard somebody complain that if the Feds were so good at running schools, why did they send theirs to private instead of public schools in DC. No thought was given to maybe if Congress was forced to send their children to public schools, they'd actually make sure the schools worked, rather than just complain about it.

March 11, 2012 at 8:35 p.m.

blondebutnotdumb, you're a liar because of the facts you claim to base your opinion upon being untrue and fabrications. Or do you ever give a thought to maybe you're wrong about your perceptions of Obama, or that your idea of an austerity-driven recovery are in error? Or maybe you're mistaken about who has gotten exemptions for the requirements of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act?

You don't have to be a racist, but you can still be utterly wrong about the president. Are you at least able to separate yourself from the birther crowd?

These pathetic liberals are all about total government control as shown in my research of the Department of Treasury hearings that took place on 9/4, 15, 2010. This pathetic president had not been in office for a year and this is what his administration wanted to do. This is the truth and if anyone says it is a lie they are liars.

Joint hearings were held with the Department of the Treasury September 14-15, 2010 on what was euphemistically called “lifetime income options for retirement plans.” The hearings were conducted by the Labor Department’s Employee Benefits Security Administration. The agenda of these hearings was to push for the US government to eventually nationalize (confiscate) all assets in private Individual Retirement Accounts (IRAs) and 401K plans!

The Obama administration is desperate to get its hands on private assets to help cover soaring budget deficits and debts, and this is simply the largest and easiest piggy bank that could be seized. The Investment Company Institute estimates that at the end of 2009 that there were $3.613 trillion of assets in IRAs and $2.350 trillion of assets in 401K plans.

What is amazing is the total dollars in these IRAs and 401-K accounts when these hearings took place equal almost exactly what this pathetic fool you liberals worship as president has spent, Oh what sick individuals we have operating the strings attached, like a puppet, to this pathetic excuse you foolish liberals have as a president.

Post here are consistent. Criticize the other party while providing nothing regarding good policies, action or agenda on the part of the supported party. Democrats say republicans are primarily the rich and greedy religious group that don't care about other people and those criticizing democrats say they are bankrupting the country and leading us to a European style socialist government with a growing dependent society. Both allegations are probably right and applicable to both parties. Neither provides a viable plan for not interfering with the markets and sustainable growth of good jobs. Both parties insist on attempting to manipulate the markets and economy but in different ways. Neither will allow free markets to work as they should and neither will slow an ever expanding central government that doesn't usurp state sovereignty.

Dr. Lawrence Britt has examined the fascist regimes of Hitler (Germany), Mussolini (Italy), Franco (Spain), Suharto (Indonesia) and several Latin American regimes. Britt found 14 defining characteristics common to each: 1. Powerful and Continuing Nationalism - Fascist regimes tend to make constant use of patriotic mottos, slogans, symbols, songs, and other paraphernalia. Flags are seen everywhere, as are flag symbols on clothing and in public displays. 2. Disdain for the Recognition of Human Rights - Because of fear of enemies and the need for security, the people in fascist regimes are persuaded that human rights can be ignored in certain cases because of "need." The people tend to look the other way or even approve of torture, summary executions, assassinations, long incarcerations of prisoners, etc. 3. Identification of Enemies/Scapegoats as a Unifying Cause - The people are rallied into a unifying patriotic frenzy over the need to eliminate a perceived common threat or foe: racial , ethnic or religious minorities; liberals; communists; socialists, terrorists, etc.

  1. Supremacy of the Military - Even when there are widespread domestic problems, the military is given a disproportionate amount of government funding, and the domestic agenda is neglected. Soldiers and military service are glamorized.
  2. Rampant Sexism - The governments of fascist nations tend to be almost exclusively male-dominated. Under fascist regimes, traditional gender roles are made more rigid. Divorce, abortion and homosexuality are suppressed and the state is represented as the ultimate guardian of the family institution.
  3. Controlled Mass Media - Sometimes to media is directly controlled by the government, but in other cases, the media is indirectly controlled by government regulation, or sympathetic media spokespeople and executives. Censorship, especially in war time, is very common.
  4. Obsession with National Security - Fear is used as a motivational tool by the government over the masses. (cont.)

  1. Religion and Government are Intertwined - Governments in fascist nations tend to use the most common religion in the nation as a tool to manipulate public opinion. Religious rhetoric and terminology is common from government leaders, even when the major tenets of the religion are diametrically opposed to the government's policies or actions.
  2. Corporate Power is Protected - The industrial and business aristocracy of a fascist nation often are the ones who put the government leaders into power, creating a mutually beneficial business/government relationship and power elite.
  3. Labor Power is Suppressed - Because the organizing power of labor is the only real threat to a fascist government, labor unions are either eliminated entirely, or are severely suppressed.
  4. Disdain for Intellectuals and the Arts - Fascist nations tend to promote and tolerate open hostility to higher education, and academia. It is not uncommon for professors and other academics to be censored or even arrested. Free expression in the arts and letters is openly attacked.
  5. Obsession with Crime and Punishment - Under fascist regimes, the police are given almost limitless power to enforce laws. The people are often willing to overlook police abuses and even forego civil liberties in the name of patriotism. There is often a national police force with virtually unlimited power in fascist nations.
  6. Rampant Cronyism and Corruption - Fascist regimes almost always are governed by groups of friends and associates who appoint each other to government positions and use governmental power and authority to protect their friends from accountability. It is not uncommon in fascist regimes for national resources and even treasures to be appropriated or even outright stolen by government leaders.
  7. Fraudulent Elections - Sometimes elections in fascist nations are a complete sham. Other times elections are manipulated by smear campaigns against or even assassination of opposition candidates, use of legislation to control voting numbers or political district boundaries, and manipulation of the media. Fascist nations also typically use their judiciaries to manipulate or control elections.

AAA report: Gas prices top $3.80 a gallon. Thanks to this pathetic president the price of a gallon of gas will keep rising as he and the dummycrats continue to be the party of "no". This exactly plays into their agenda of controlling people while making the oil companies more money. Remember when the dummycrats said 12 years ago that drilling for more oil would take ten years to get to market? It would be here now and these gas prices would not be adding to Obama's efforts to cripple our economy. When George Bush was president the high price of gas, $2.50 per gallon was his responsibility according to you disgusting liberals. So I will have to agree with you disgusting liberals that the price of gas being doubled during Obama's presidency is his responsibility. Wow, I never thought we could agree on something.

If this pathetic fool you disgusting liberals worship remains your president we can expect more of the same. High gas prices, high unemployment, more debt, more inflation, zero or slow economic growth, open borders, less energy dependence, failed renewable energy investments, continued attacks on religious freedoms, apologies to our enemies after they kill our soldiers, higher taxes, more attacks on private industry, more class and race warfare, more entitlement programs, more transferring of wealth to his political allies, more lies and the list goes on and on. What is really sad is people like happywithbeinganidiot want all this to keep happening as it is part of their agenda to destroy America as we know it. I once heard a dummycrat say he wants more government in his life. That is the way these fools think people. Remember when this pathetic fool the liberals worship as president said, "I want to move the country forward"? He actually wants to move the country to a more socialist society where more people are dependent on government. Kind of like Communist Russia where the whole population was dependent on government and the incentive to work was nonexistent. And that is what the dummycrats want to do is take away the incentive to work. it is pathetic.

Nobody has proposed confiscating IRA's of 401K's. You're making it all up. The purpose of those hearings was to find ways to "enhance retirement security for employees in defined contribution plans by facilitating access to, and use of, lifetime income or other arrangements designed to provide a lifetime stream of income after retirement."

Many people have been emptying their retirement plans through the taking out of loans or lump-sum payments, depleting those plans which will cause people to have far less to live on when they retire.

You need to quit reading sites full of lies and misinformation and spend a few minutes going to the source for your information.

Nationalization of 401-ks and IRAs was discussed in 2010 with the prmise being the government could better manage the investments and guaranteed income with government insuring the income at other tax payers expense if necessary but nothing has been done to change anything yet.

From a committee report: The Vice President’s (Biden) comments are troubling, insofar as they come on the heels of testimony before Congress from supporters of GRAs proposing to eliminate the favorable tax treatment currently afforded to 401(k) plans, and instead use those dollars to fund government-invested GRAs into which all employees would be required to contribute a portion of their salary – again, with a government subsidy. These advocates would, essentially, dismantle the present private-sector 401(k) system, replacing it instead with a government-run investment plan, the size and scope of which remain to be seen. This despite data showing that 90 percent of households have a favorable opinion of the existing 401(k)/IRA system

joneses, well, if your disagreement is about reality, then yes, you are either a liar, or grossly mistaken. Repeating it, after being offered the truth, makes it an example of a lie.

I can understand genuine inadvertent error, even inconsequential error (like the attribution of the quote above), but an error of substance, like claiming say, Obama was born in Kenya, now that makes you a liar.

steve_smith, you haven't noticed the approval given to stereotypes of "liberals" and other "left-wing socialist communist" that the crowd of right-wing adherents offers with regularity here? The more you condemn the one side, while ignoring the faults of your own, the less integrity you have to offer. Or do you think they're actually false-flag operations?

If so, you have even more reason to condemn them, like I would somebody like say Chet, if I could read what he said. I can't, though, so I just put him in the dismissal category.

harp3339, you have it half-right. You're forgetting "NEVER EVER ADMIT YOUR SIDE DID WRONG" and "release whatever false claims you want, but never check them" for example, how you did with the 401K/IRA system:

It's been making the rounds for a while, but all been false:

http://www.factcheck.org/2008/11/iras-401ks-and-you/

http://www.politifact.com/virginia/statements/2010/dec/03/william-howell/virginia-speaker-william-howell-says-congress-cons/

That said, it probably does need some attention - especially after living through two episodes in nine years of 401ks shrinking to 201Ks.

I am still trying to figure out how the hell Romney shifted so much money into his tax-deferred accounts. As I understand it, if he showed up for work for Bain - he would have to pay taxes. But if he takes a big cut of the pie without walking in the door - we hand him a juicy tax break.

The whole exchange with Panetta is misrepresented. An analogy for the situation would be the school-class deciding to go on some field trip, then the students going to the parents and getting their permission. But if they class had permission to go somewhere in a more complex multiple-stage trip, and decided to alter their itinerary, what would be the point of getting permission slips from all the parents again?

BRP, you may want to check out Prava Online's actual function now.

They're a low-rent news aggregator just barely above the Weekly World News. And your story would be found in the opinion page, not any kind of journalism section. Why is that?

Fawning coverage of Arpaio's "news conference" is not demonstration of a conspiracy, it's an example of how you think you can duck genuine issues by coming up with fanciful complaints instead of dealing with real issues.

Meanwhile, you complain that it's the other side that has the problems.

Hello, you're the one associating with Birthers! What is the world coming to? If you want to bring things back to substance, why don't you try that instead of your own ranting?

I swear, they must be paying you to be a bad example. That's the only logical explanation.

chet said to joneses.... HEY BUDDY HAVE YOU EVER HEARD ABOUT A WORD CALLED "SPECULATIVE TRADING" Hmmmm? SURLY YOU CANT BE THAT DUMB Hmmmmmmmmmmmm?

chet, can you explain how speculators affect the price of any commodity. I own 100 barrels of oil and sold an option, in other words signed a contract to sell it at $110 even if oil goes higher than that. If it doesn't go above $110 I keep the $5 a barrel earnest money ($500) and will still own the 100 barrels of oil. Q: Am I and the person I have a contract with contributing to higher oil prices.

Q: If you find a house you want to buy for $100,000 and you give the owner $1,000 to lock in that price for 90 days and the house increases in value to $115,000 at which point you buy it from the present owner then sell it for $115,000 did you cause the price of the house to go up or did you just profit from the housing market improving. If the house decreases in value you forfeit the $1,000 instead of paying $100,000 for a house worth less than $99,000. Q: How is this different than speculating in stocks.

If this is too deep for you then just ignore it and don't try to explain how speculators cause higher prices on anything. You may want to limit your self proclaimed expertise to religion, politics and evaluating of other peoples intelligence and political opinions where you conclude if their religious or political opinons differ from yours it can only be due to their ignorance. When you venture into the financial and stock market arena you may reveal your lack of knowledge, experience and expertise.

You're going to have to do more than offer the above. How about a link? Nobody, and I do mean nobody, has proposed seizing current retirement accounts.

Setting up a nationalized retirement system has been kicked around many times, and privatizing Social Security has been proposed. But I again repeat, that what people have in retirement accounts now, will forever be the property of the owner of those accounts.

"From a committee report: The Vice President’s (Biden) comments are troubling, insofar as they come on the heels of testimony before Congress from supporters of GRAs proposing to eliminate the favorable tax treatment currently afforded to 401(k) plans, and instead use those dollars to fund government-invested GRAs into which all employees would be required to contribute a portion of their salary – again, with a government subsidy. These advocates would, essentially, dismantle the present private-sector 401(k) system, replacing it instead with a government-run investment plan, the size and scope of which remain to be seen. This despite data showing that 90 percent of households have a favorable opinion of the existing 401(k)/IRA system"

I am very interested in reading whatever you can point me to, in order to understand what it is that "troubles" you. I seriously doubt that anyone in the legislative branch of Government is behind any push to force people to invest their current privately held retirement funds into a nationalized Government Retirement Account.

It is as simple as described both in housing, stocks and commodities futures. There is no speculation unless there is a willing buyer and seller of the futures contract or option. One will lose money and the other will make money. Airlines and others dependent on oil are among the bigger buyers of futures contracts. The purpose of the commodity exchange is to avoid wild day to day fluctuations. The exchange is closed if the swing exceeds set limits. Right now people are paying up in anticipation of an interruption in the supply. Should that not occur they will lose money. You can make money regardless of the direction of the market if you can accurately anticipate the short term direction.

March 12, 2012 at 6:02 p.m.

So rolando, do you want the national electorate to be more like the Republican primary demographics?

harp3339, no, it's not that simple, not at all. Speculation causes people to act, get enough people acting, things go in one direction or another, or more precisely, several different ones.

hwtnb...Q: Do you think if those 10,000 speculators were speculating the price to go down it would simply because they were speculating it would. The investor grave yard is full of speculators that guessed wrong...hedge funds and big investors have bankrupt, gone dead broke speculating on commodities, stocks and bonds. Some have made and lost fortunes. Some uninformed members of congress still refer to the impact of speculators without explaining why but Obama only said it once in a press conference. He then turned to a shocked Eric Holder and ask him to investigate it. Apparently someone educated him, he hasn't repeated his statement. Of course there has and probably won't be anything come of the investigation. Manipulation by the unscripulous is more prevalent in the financial sector and stock markets.

March 12, 2012 at 6:24 p.m.

rolando, or the same Republican Primaries where a whole county is left out because of error? Either way, it's your choice, just tell us what demographic make-up you want the electorate to ACTUALLY be. What's your idea of a "legal" voter? All white male property owners who will vote a straight party line for you?

But keep grasping at straws, a proposed statement of opinion that maybe if something happens, they might consider impeachment...sure, it's aimed at Obama, but you're the one making it out to be more than it is. If it had happened in Bush's term of office, you'd be screaming at the traitor daring to question the Presidential authority though.

And you can find Obama's Birth Certificate in Hawaii. Why haven't you gone there to see it?

But you're not attacking the Democrats, you're attacking your own alleged side. You're so obviously non-genuine though, you must be paid by the other side to do so in an attempt to discredit your own.

Unless...you're a double-reserve secret false flag operation, paid by your own side to so poorly represent it that everybody is convinced you're a shill for the opponents!

March 12, 2012 at 6:24 p.m.

harp3339, why are you quoting me twice? Can't you just reply to me once? At the least, say you're going to continue your post in the original one.

Would it be as simple as speculating that the price would go down? No, because it would also have to include enough not speculating it would go up, and some other factors like actual demand, not speculative, and production.

Trying to make it simple doesn't make it true. And I have no idea what you're talking about Obama saying to Holder, so if you're going to reference it, please give a source for it.

But yes, unscrupulous manipulation is common, but so what? The existence of arson doesn't mean we ignore other fire safety factors.

Though if you want my idea of the electorate, I would say everybody that is subject to the direct government who is able to make a conscious representation of their preference. It will receive a bit of lip service and then fade away. Otherwise, too many powerful heads would roll. Our government -- all of it -- is too corrupt to allow that to happen.

Our only recourse at this point is to do as Lincoln said and exercise "our revolutionary right" and overthrow it. Our Declaration of Independence charges us with the duty "...to throw off such Government, and to provide new Guards for their future security."

Anybody...anybody at all.

For somebody who claims to follow the Constitution, you sure make up a lot about it. Requiring a certain height to vote? Is that based on some conservative idea about stature? Does that go with the recent idea about wealth going with political influence? More billions, more votes! After all, a larger share deserves more votes! Got to run the country more like a business! Next up, a bankruptcy sale to liquidate some assets! Which state will be let go first? South Carolina? Michigan?
