The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga won just one of its five bouts this morning at the NCAA wrestling tournament in St. Louis.
Each of the Mocs received a first-round bye but the only one to survive the second round was 165-pound Brandon Wright, who scored a 5-2 decision over Michigan State’s David Cheza.
Nick Soto (133) was pinned by Illinois Bernard Futrell, the No. 4 seed and a wrestler he bested earlier this year.
Dean Pavlou (149) dropped a 9-4 decision to Pittsburgh’s Tyler Nauman, Dan Waddell (157) was bested 10-0 by Clarion’s James Fleming and Levi Clemons fell 11-2.
All of the Mocs will wrestle again later today.
