Chattanooga, already renowned for things such as our scenic landscape, the Volkswagen plant at Enterprise South industrial park and a strong volunteer spirit, is about to become the setting for a major film with an A-list actor.

Harrison Ford, one of Hollywood's biggest stars for decades, will be in a locally made movie about major league baseball player Jackie Robinson. Filming is slated for May through July, and it will take place mainly at historic Engel Stadium.

It will be "the biggest film project ever to hit Chattanooga," according to Missy Crutchfield, the city's administrator for the Department of Education, Arts and Culture.

The film company, Legendary Pictures, plans to spend a "significant amount" of money on renovations at the stadium, she added.

That's good news for the stadium, and the attention that the film and Ford's participation will bring to Chattanooga is good news for us all.
