• Name: WellAdvantage, a health and wellness center for current and retired city employees

• Location: 600 block of 11th Street

• Status: The new center, which replaces existing structures on 10th Street and Amnicola Highway, is under construction with a planned completion date of October. Foundations have been poured, and workers will soon start laying structural steel, according to Dan Thornton, manager of real property for the city.

• Price: $4.1 million

• Features: The expanded medical clinic and wellness center will run programs to improve the health of city employees and will stock workout equipment for them. "We're bursting at the seams," Thornton said. The idea behind the programs is to prevent employees from getting sick in the first place by promoting healthy lifestyles and raising awareness about diabetes and weight issues, Thornton said. "When your employees are healthy, they're productive," he said. Some of the workout equipment from the existing facility on 10th Street will be transferred to the new structure. An employee pharmacy will provide low-cost prescriptions and over-the-counter medicine to workers and retirees.

• Contractors: Mike Davis and Cary Davis of DBS Corp. and Phil Whitfield of TWH Architects.
