Anonymous tips to the Dalton Police Department have led to the arrest of a 37-year-old woman on a theft charge, according to a news release.

This morning Tanada E. Cabone, of 1108 Danielle Drive, turned herself in at the Dalton Police Department on a charge of felony theft of loss or mislaid property in connection with the taking of a purse from a Dalton Hardee's restaurant on Feb. 25.

Police said anonymous tips from the public helped lead investigators to seek a warrant for Cabone's arrest.

The theft occurred at the Hardee's on Cleveland Highway, where the victim was eating with friends when a booth became available and her group moved, according to police. When she returned to the original table to get her purse it was gone. Other customers told her that a woman had taken it, and she called police.

While officers were taking her report, the victim's son called to say he had received a call from employees at the Family Dollar Store on East Morris Street saying they had her purse. Those employees told officers the purse was turned in by a woman claiming she had found it in a shopping cart in the parking lot.

The victim checked her bag and found everything still inside it except $800 in cash and a debit card, police said. Surveillance video helped investigators determine that the woman who turned in the purse was the same woman who stole it from the Hardee's.

Police said that on March 9, investigators distributed the woman's photo to media outlets. Less than two hours after it appeared on the Internet, Detective Brandon Carter had received multiple anonymous phone tips that the woman was Tanada Cabone, police said.

After more investigation, Carter obtained a warrant for Cabone's arrest and she turned herself in this morning at the Police Services Center, authorities said.
