Friday, March 23, 2012

Local authorities and Georgia Bureau of Investigation agents raided stores in Trenton and Dalton Thursday for commercial Internet gambling, officials in Dade County confirmed this morning.

Dade County Sheriff's Department investigations division officials said the raids were the culmination of a three-month operation by local authorities and the GBI in which gamer were paid off on winnings. The store in Trenton is dubbed "Lucky Peaches," authorities said.

Officials said the raids were conducted simultaneously about 11 a.m. Thursday.

Authorities seized computers used in Internet gambling, cash and some prizes intended as pay outs for wins, according to officials.

No charges have been filed against either store owners or employees so far, officials said. Store employees are believed not to have known they were conducting an illegal activity, a detective said.

Dade officials said a "special ops" unit from Walker County assisted in the operation in Dade County.

More information is expected to be released later.
