HEARD ON THE TOWN

FLORA LEE Kernea said women from across Tennessee gathered at the Sheraton Read House to attend the 64th Southeast Conference of Gold Star Wives of America Inc.

The three-day meeting was hosted by the Magnolia Chapter of Gold Star Wives, of which Kernea is president. During the conference, the women heard from retired Army Maj. Dan Paupp, and Russ Maxey, Army SOS coordinator. Third District Rep. Chuck Fleischmann addressed the group about congressional bills of concern to the group.

Don Smith, representing the office of Gov. Bill Haslem, attended the closing banquet. He presented a proclamation declaring April 5 an annual day of honor for all Gold Star Wives in Tennessee. Accepting it with Kernea were Alice Phillips, region president, and Elizabeth Harris of the Clarksville, Tenn., Gold Star Wives chapter.

CONGRATULATIONS to members of the Alpha Chapter of The Delta Kappa Gamma Society International who celebrated the organization's 75th Anniversary during a reception at Brainerd United Methodist Church.

Delta Kappa Gamma promotes professional and personal growth of women educators and excellence in education. The Chattanooga-Hamilton County Alpha Chapter was the first chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma Society International organized in the state of Tennessee.

Among those in attendance were DKG International officers, Xi State (Tennessee) officers, local dignitaries, DKG Sisters from other local chapters and guests. Alpha Chapter received proclamations from Chattanooga Mayor Ron Littlefield, Hamilton County Mayor Jim Coppinger and Gov. Haslam.
