WHITESBURG, Ga. -- Joshua S. Haynes will be the speaker when the Georgia Chapter of the Trail of Tears Association meets Saturday at McIntosh Reserve Park in Whitesburg.
Haynes, a doctoral candidate at the University of Georgia, will speak about theft and violence on the Creek-Georgia Frontier between 1773 and 1812, according to a news release.
The meeting will begin at 10:30 a.m. Bring a picnic lunch and a chair.

MOORESBURG, Tenn. -- A teenager has drowned in an East Tennessee lake.
WVLT-TV reported crews found the body of 18-year-old Joshua Travis Thacker near the Quarryville boat dock in Mooresburg on Saturday evening after a three-hour search. The boat dock is at the Cherokee Lake Campground in Hawkins County.
The station reported that Thacker tried to swim across an inlet, but yelled at a friend when he began to have trouble.
