about Clay Bennett...

The son of a career army officer, Bennett led a nomadic life, attending ten different schools before graduating in 1980 from the University of North Alabama with degrees in Art and History. After brief stints as a staff artist at the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette and the Fayetteville (NC) Times, he went on to serve as the editorial cartoonist for the St. Petersburg Times (1981-1994) and The Christian Science Monitor (1997-2007), before joining the staff of the ...

To make this more accurate Bennett could have made the students appear like they were in an unemployment line as obutthead's failures as a president has made the unemployment rate among young adults less than 25 years old a whopping 16.5%. So actually because of obuttheads failed stimulus plan and his continued attack on small business and large corporations these recent gradualtes are not able to pursue their careers to pay back the student loans they agreed to pay back when they acquired them.

Our higher education institutions are pumping-out graduates both into the unemployment line and debt-collection line. There are various blames for this situation but in short the students, parents and schools need to face reality on the changing job markets, and our state legislation needs to stop supplementing this boondoggle.

It's time for the government to get out of the education business altogether. Billions upon billions of dollars later and test scores are no better off.

I remember several years ago I read a study where 30% of high school students in the Washington D.C. area thought that Benjamin Franklin was a president.........Your tax dollars at work folks!

Off topic comment here, The other day when Obama was at Cloony's house raking in $15 million, Obama actually said this: "sometimes I forget the magnitude of the recession". Now that's a direct quote from Obama..........Talk about out of touch!!

Just how sick do you have to be to claim one side is everything you claim while you sit back and cheer on the lies of a demented, bigot? BUSH and some others are opposed to the POLICIES of President Obama but you would NEVER find any one of these MEN agreeing to the crap Joneses writes on a daily basis.

JOHN MCCAIN in 2008 corrected the idiot standing in front of him on a NATIONAL STAGE when she tried to say Candidate Obama was some kind of Arab. He looked her right in the face and said "no, that's not true." Weakling Romney couldn't man up and do the same with one of his supporters when she said the President should be tried for Treason. One has to wonder if both dummies even know the definition of Treason. You are no different than weakling Romney when you cheer on the demented comments below and then accuse others of hate and division. HYPOCRITE!!

2-Q Are you really so ignorant as to what Mr. Watson is trying to accomplish here? Apparently so, I would not expect you to understand the subtleties of Mr. Watson's agenda. This is a shortcut to try and allow "intelligent design" to be introduced into science classes as some form of scientific inquiry.

Mr. Watson says "“While evolution is deemed as the origin of life, folks are sensitive to that and we should not discourage students from exploring alternative theories,” Watson said, as long as they remain within state guidelines, which does not allow the endorsing of religion."

Hmm, wonder what "alternative theories" he would be talking about? Perhaps you can enlighten us as to another theory.

There are basically two mainstream thoughts on the origins of life, evolution and creationism. One is based on scientific analysis and one is based on a book written by nomadic Bronze age people voicing an opinion.

There are some jobs where a degree is necessary and people are hired WITHOUT work experience because they have been EDUCATED and trained so they can be HIRED. Students have to make a choice. Go to school, get some training, pay the price for training or take a chance, skip college and try to get a decent paying job without training or experience. They have to weigh the opportunity costs for themselves.

There was a time in Chattanooga when students could leave schools like Kirkman Technical High and go into apprenticeships but today that's no longer possible for a variety of reasons. We live in a global economy. Students must compete not only here at home but globally as well because so many of our jobs here at home have been outsourced for cheaper labor. Higher Education like everything else comes with a price. There is no such thing as a free lunch.

May 15, 2012 at 4:28 p.m.

Here's a chart for you nooga. They aren't rich, but they are making a good wage. Keep in mind, the average inocme for the U.S. as a whole is $40,584, for TN $35,307. Also, keep in mind these salaraies are based upon 9 months instead of 12. The highest is the business school professor who earns $194,799 which has risen almost 100% from $99,867 in 1996. That salary adjusted for 12 months of work is $243,498.75. That amount is close to the $250k limit mentioned as the "rich" limit by Obama and other Marxists. The figures are for professors of Penn State. http://www.senate.psu.edu/agenda/2010-2011/mar2011/salarytables.pdf

So, once again, what other mainstream "alternative theories" to evolution are there? Here's a hint...creationism, unless you exclude the theory of the Flying Spaghetti Monster which has a lot of adherents. http://www.venganza.org/about/

Oh, and tutu, my reference to our legislators enacting the posting of the Ten Commandments was well within the context of my original posting about the idiocy of our legislators.
