Tennessee Wesleyan hammers Lee University at NAIA Series

LEWISTON, Idaho - Second-seeded Lee University was clobbered by fourth seed Tennessee Wesleyan on Tuesday night, losing 13-3 in a matchup of the last two undefeated baseball teams in the 2012 Avista NAIA World Series. Stephan Branca led TWC, goiing 3-for-5 with a pair of RBIs. Jordan Guida was 2-for-3 with three RBIs and three runs, and Taylor Oldham and Dale Ricketts each had a pair of hits in the win. Lee was led by Brady Renner, who had two hits, and Mike Moore who had a hit and scored twice. Earlier Tuesday, Rogers and LSU Shreveport remained alive with one loss each. Rogers edged Point Park 8-6; top-seeded Shreveport nipped third seed Oklahoma City 5-4. After Wesleyan (50-11) recorded its 16th consecutive win by downing Rogers State, Lee scored the first six runs of Monday's late game against Oklahoma City and won 7-3 on a combined four-hitter from pitchers Patrick Merkling, Joe Fabre and Jose Samayoa.

• Joanna Poinsatte from Notre Dame High School and Chattanooga Junior Rowing completed her junior season at the University of Notre Dame with an eighth-place national finish and a second consecutive selection as a College Rowing Coaches Association Scholar-Athlete. That distinction requires a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.5 on a 4.0 scale and 75 percent participation in spring races or racing in regional conference events. Poinsatte's first varsity 4 boat finished second in the petite finals, eighth overall, and Notre Dame's women were ranked 15th for the season. She finished eighth nationally her last two seasons with CJR.
