2 hurt in Hamilton County school bus accident

A Hamilton County school bus accident sent two individuals to the hospital this afternoon.

Officials say an SUV rear-ended bus 306 about 2:30 p.m. as it was stopping near the intersection of East Brainerd Road and Everett Drive. The bus, operated by Durham School Services, was taking students home from East Hamilton Middle-High School.

The bus driver and one female student were taken to a local hospital for treatment of minor injuries, said Ben Coulter, director of transportation for the Hamilton County Department of Education.

He was unsure whether the driver of the SUV was injured.

Between 25 and 30 students were on the bus at the time, Coulter said, and officials rerouted them home on other buses.
