about Clay Bennett...

The son of a career army officer, Bennett led a nomadic life, attending ten different schools before graduating in 1980 from the University of North Alabama with degrees in Art and History. After brief stints as a staff artist at the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette and the Fayetteville (NC) Times, he went on to serve as the editorial cartoonist for the St. Petersburg Times (1981-1994) and The Christian Science Monitor (1997-2007), before joining the staff of the ...

That's an old one...but don't worry, Romney won't let himself be dictated to by the facts.

After all, he's EARNED the right to his own reality, it's not an entitlement for him.

Not Ayn Rand's.

"There are two novels that can change a bookish fourteen-year old's life: The Lord of the Rings and Atlas Shrugged. One is a childish fantasy that often engenders a lifelong obsession with its unbelievable heroes, leading to an emotionally stunted, socially crippled adulthood, unable to deal with the real world. The other, of course, involves orcs."

Or if you want something more recent, John Ringo has some books which skew to right-wing sensibilities, or you can try Orson Scott Card, David Gerrold and Tom Clancy.

Or if you prefer the Objectivist, there's Terry Goodkind.

A question that deserves an answer before election day. October 31, 2012 |

According to polls 73 percent of WHITE evangelicals will be voting for Mitt Romney.

If the polls are correct here’s the question I'd like to ask evangelicals using their own style of language/concerns/theological thinking as applied to their choice:

What’s the explanation for the fact that white American Evangelicals made the allegedly philandering lying ignorant braggart lapsed Roman Catholic Dinesh D'Souza their anti-Obama hero, embrace a pro-choice Mormon bishop who promoted abortion and Planned Parenthood in MA, are working to elect a job-destroying tax-avoiding lying flip-flopping-tell-anyone-anything-they-want-to-hear Swiss bank account collecting draft dodger running with a disciple of the God-hating, Jesus-mocking hater-of-the-poor Ayn Rand, for their presidential candidate and look the other way as a crazed ultra-Zionist many Israeli Jews fear billionaire casino owner who is being investigated for allegedly making billions off the dirtiest Chinese gambling Communist Party-controlled outfit in the world funds the enterprise, at the very same time as Franklin Graham sold his ailing father Billy’s soul and denied core evangelical theology by taking Mormonism off the Billy Graham organization’s list of cults in order to help the Mormon pagan-ritual-performing, Trinity-denying, casino-money-grubbing billionaire-coddling, earth-destroying global-warming denying Mormon bishop win respectability for his dead-Jews-baptizing-polygamy-rooted-reality-denying-interplanetary Masonic lodge-embracing faith in an election against an exemplary modest faithful husband good father compassionate smart black evangelical Christian President whose major accomplishments include saving the economy, ending a war, killing our greatest enemy, giving health care to children and the poor and the "least of these" and who has tried to reduce the number of abortions by helping women escape poverty in a reenactment of the lesson of the parable of the Good Samaritan?

Go figure. ( Frank Shaeffer)

During this Presidential campaign Politifact has rated 19 of Romney’s comments and TV ads ‘pants on fire’. You get that rating when you say something that you know is a lie.

Recently, Romney claimed that Jeep was going to “move all production” to China, when Jeep actually said they were adding 1,100 new jobs in their Toledo assembly plant.

GM spokesman Greg Martin shot back, “We’ve clearly entered some parallel universe during these last few days. At this stage we’re looking at Hubble telescope-length distances between campaign ads and reality.”

No one should be surprised. Way back in August the Romney campaign promised to say whatever they needed to say in order to win. Romney pollster Neil Newhouse told a panel organized by ABC news, “We’re not going to let our campaign be dictated by fact-checkers.”

Truth be damned.

The Good Samaritan spent his own time and money, not tax dollars. The thugs who robbed the man whom the Good Samaritan helped, they took what the victim had earned. Yeah, the lords of the gentiles are re-enacting the parable.

Reality? Look at the deficits and the debt. Sooner or later the liberals run out of other peoples' money. I think ONE of the 50 states--New Hampshire?--budgets by figuring out how much is coming in and spending that, instead of figuring out what it wants to do, spending the money, and then trying to figure out how to (pretend to) pay for it.

I expect to vote for Virgil Goode (Constitution Party); wish Romney and Gary Johnson (Libertarian) well--Johnson, the most austere governor in the country, had the best rate of job growth, he says--and wish Mr Obama well as ex-President; Jimmy Carter has done well there.

TQ, honey, you’ve hit a new low.

You never addressed Romney’s statement that Jeep is going to “MOVE ALL PRODUCTION TO CHINA,” in your endless cut and paste tribute to mind-numbing propaganda.

Do you know why GM and Ford build cars in China? The same reason Toyota builds cars in Kentucky, Mercedes builds cars in Alabama, and Honda builds cars in Ohio. Carmakers like to make their cars close to their markets. It cuts costs.

Jeep will build Jeeps in China to sell to the Chinese, but their new $500 million investment in the Toledo assembly plant shows Jeep will stay in operation there and remain "the backbone of the brand."

Romney still insists that Jeep is going to “MOVE ALL PRODUCTIION TO CHINA.”

Don’t look now Mitt but your pants are burning again.

At a campaign stop in Ohio, Governor Mitt Romney told an audience that automotive manufacturer, Jeep, was recently sold to "the Italians," and was "thinking about moving all production to China."

It's this thing called politics. Black, you forgot the word "THINKING." To me it comes as no surprise!

As for FIAT, I remember it stood for "Fix It Again Tony" back in the day. Let's hope Italy's car manufacturing doesn't parallel their legal system?

Anyway, enjoy your new president and don't forget to pay your taxes. They are going up you know!

There is a media bias when their reporting does not support the viewers opinion. There is no bias when the reporter leans toward the viewers ideology. The perceived bias depends on the mental map by which one grades the information. Too many journalist express thier own views and call it news. More of them comment on the news than report it.

Switching between channels after each debate one would wonder if the people commenting watched the same debate.

@TQ: Regarding Bengazi:

Here's the sad truth. The minute the attack on the consulate began, as long as the attackers were bent on killing, Americans would die.

I don't know if you have ever served in the military. I have. I have been impressed with the incredible and impressive surge capacity of the US military to respond to an event. Unfortunately, this takes time. Time to collect and interpret the intelligence--who are the enemy? what is their intention? what is their armament? Time to formulate a plan of attack--frontal assault? envelopment? special operations infiltration? Time to gather equipment--planes, helicopters, ships, food, water, guns, ammo. Time to get required diplomatic permission to overfly a country or enter one. Time to execute the plan. Time.

Sadly, Ambassador Stevens' life was forfeit the moment the attackers were bent on taking it. The canard that help was two hours away is crap. An effective military response would have taken about 12 hours at a minimum.

Just ask the mother of a 6 month old child how long it takes her to get a child rediapered, dressed, packed up in a car seat, driven to the market, select and purchase groceries, return home, put away the food, prepare dinner and get it on the table. That's 2 hours easy.

Biases are a natural occurrence. The person with the bias is certain they are right and those disagreeing simply don't know the truth, are not as intuitive or don't have the insight they possess. Interesting and surprising results came from a study and survey of people working as volunteers at hospitals, charities or involved in other benevolent activities. A study of money contributed to charities had similar results. Those with certain political preferences and those not committed to either were a significant majority even with a 2-3X larger margin of error than was used. Reactions and opinions are a result of a personal bias.

In direct relation to today’s cartoon (and a good one at that) by Mr.Bennett.

Speaking like a true chicken hawk, someone here has selective patriotism with their phony Benghazi-Gate Conspiracy bullsh*t. This person – disguised as a "patriot" is in reality anything but, a fair-weather patriot at most, or not even that - willing to lend support ONLY if the president is from their party.

As always, acting very much like an enraged baboon, this overbearing nut job will not give an inch on anything. Casting aside facts, ignoring the records of their own, jumping to paranoid conclusions, embarrass themselves and generally do whatever it takes to disrupt, sabotage and deride anyone unlike themselves.

To quote a favorite rodent: “Give me a friggin break! You have to be kidding me. What happened to “Nobody could have predicted the 9/11 attacks?” Or even worse, making up the intel on Iraq - Repeatedly! Or how about “Nobody could have predicted hurricane Katrina?” To which Dubya's reaction was 'Huh'? I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again. Anyone who questioned Dubya after 9/11 was immediately attacked as unpatriotic or asked “Why do you hate America”. And yet these same hypocrites have no problem questioning everything that Obama does. Like flies around a dumpster, they can’t wait until we have all the information. And if they don’t like the information, they will make things up. You make me sick.” :MickeyRat

I’ll bet dollars to doughnuts that during Obama’s second term, she (it) will trumpet the call to impeach the president for the Benghazi attack.

P.S. Remember on Sunday to set your clocks back 1 hour, and then on Tuesday to NOT set the country back 80 years.

Your analysis of response timing and that it could have been done in two hours is crap mar or may not be correct. Not crap is the woefully inadequate security at a facility in a country where violence involving active militants was well known. An area where all hell was breaking loose and where serious security concerns had been expressed for some time. The involvement in the turmoil of militants with 9/11 having as much meaning, for different reasons, to them as to us. Why were Americans still there is not an unreasonable question for which there is no good answer.

A personal bias..Obama needs to take a good look at where he has not been well served and reload. No president is capable of keeping up with all that is going on in a government bigger than most can even imagine. It is not humanly possible to monitor and know the details of every facet of all the federal government is involved in which includes foreign affairs. Being commander and chief today demands most of any presidents time. In other matters he must depend on capable, competent people he can trust to do the right thing, make good decisions that he or she can accept and support as their own.

The most misleading message from both candidates is that they can control the economy or have any meaningful impact on it or on the deficit or debt. That is the responsibility of congress which allowed the situation we are in today to develop and in which they continue to fail miserably.

well mickeyrat, the attack in Libya was predicted. The attackers had already done probing attacks and placed a threat on social media that they were coming back after the Ambassador. The Ambassador pleaded for more protection. Not only was the added protection denied, his current protection detail was reduced. As a former military member myself I abhor this coward in the White House who lets Americans die and doesn't help. He hasn't even responded with anything but lies and misdirection about it. Who would want to join our military with this coward in charge? Our military's motto has always been to respond when one of ours was in danger(until now). Never leave someone behind enemy lines without doing everything possible to rescue them A.S.A.P. I'm willing to bet that military recruitment will plummet if the Ocoward is re-elected.

Jack, I'll start here:

Defense Secretary Leon Panetta, along with General Carter Ham, along with Chairman of the Joint Chiefs General Dempsey, didn't authorize the deployment of troops during the attack because it was unclear what was happening on the ground. Panetta: "As a result of not having that kind of information, the commander who was on the ground in that area, General Ham, General Dempsey and I felt very strongly that we could not put forces at risk in that situation." Furthermore, the attacks weren't pre-planned and, in fact, used the protests as an impromptu cover to launch the missiles. Just as Susan Rice and others have said!

Additionally, the CIA did not, nor anyone in its chain of command rejected requests for help from the besieged Americans.

What we have are two aspects of the Reactionary Party's mindset and pure ideology coming together to create a perfect storm of irrational and unpatriotic grandstanding.

The first is that the reactionaries are absolutely convinced that they are morally right in ALL their positions. They lack any sense of doubt--they are certain that they are the worlds only moral voice. Once this is realized the rest is obvious--if you disagree with them then you are not only disagreeing about policy, you are now immoral and therefore they feel completely justified in taking you down by whatever means necessary. They view Obama not as just wrong on the issues as a result but as an inherently immoral person. A perfect illustration of this is ‘tderng’s statement, “I abhor this coward in the White House who lets Americans die and doesn't help.” It is both baseless and empty of any reality let alone facts. Both of which are (to him) unimportant.

The other is the notion that the United States is all powerful and can control events anywhere in the world at any given moment, and if something goes wrong it must be the result of something akin to treason (especially of the person is already considered inherently immoral). This is the type of thinking that led then Sen. McCarthy to ask "Who lost China" in the 1950s despite any reality in China.

Both of these standards are dangerous. The first is a form of fascistic thinking that leads to uncompromising gridlock and nonsense like theses baseless accusations and demands for an investigation. The latter leads to a thoughtless and needlessly belligerent foreign policy that only weakens us and our alliances. Which is EXACTLY what happened during a true cowards presidency – Bush
Both are essentially irrational.

The only return reason to our politics is to vote out both parties.

My homeland is Arrogant Northeast Liberal Elite? How about this for arrogant: the South is the Real America? The Authentic America. Really?

Cause we founded this country, dickhead. Those Founding Fathers you keep going on and on about? Who do you think those wig-wearing lacy-shirt sporting revolutionaries were? They were effing blue-staters, moron. Boston? Philadelphia? New York? New Jersey Hello? Think there might be a reason all the monuments are up here in our backyard?

Nope. We're not letting you visit the Liberty Bell and Plymouth Rock anymore until you get over your real American selves and start respecting those that made this country. Who do you think those stripes on the flag are for? Nine are for blue states. And it would be 10 if those Vermonters had gotten their daamn Subarus together and broken off from New York a little earlier. Get it? We started this sht NOT YOU, so don't get all uppity about how real you are you Johnny-come-lately "Oooooh I've been a state for a hundred years" dickhead. Arrogant? You wanna talk about us Northeasterners being arrogant? What's more American than arrogance? Hmmm? Mitt’s dressage horsies? I don't think so. Arrogance is the cornerstone of what it means to be American. And we wouldn't be so arrogant if we weren't paying for your bridges, bitch. All those Federal taxes you love to hate? It all comes from us and goes to you, so shut up and enjoy your TVA electricity and your fancy highways that we paid for. And the next time Florida gets hit by a hurricane you can come crying to us if you want to, but you're the ones who built in a swamp. "Let the Spanish keep it, it’s a mosquito infested shthole," we said, but you had to have your orange juice.

The next dickwad who says, "It’s your money, not the government's money" is gonna get their ass kicked. Nine of the ten states that get the most federal dollars and pay the least... can you guess? Go on, guess. That’s right, they're red states. And eight of the ten states that receive the least and pay the most? It’s too easy, they’re blue states. It’s not your money, bonehead, it’s OUR money. What was that Real American Value you right wingers love to spout? Self-reliance? Try this for self-reliance: buy your own effing stop signs, you holes.

Let’s talk about those values for a minute. You and your Southern values can bite my ass because the blue states got the values over you crackers every day of the damn week. Which state do you think has the lowest divorce rate you marriage-hyping dickwad? Well? Can you guess? It’s Massachusetts, one of the centers of the gay marriage universe. Yes, that’s right, the state you love to tie around the neck of anyone to the left of Strom Thurmond has the lowest divorce rate in the nation. Think that’s just some aberration? How about this: 9 of the 10 lowest divorce rates are blue states, a-hole, and most are in the Northeast, where our values suck so bad. And where are the highest divorce rates? Care to guess? 10 of the top 10 are red-ass we're-so-dad burn-moral states. And while Nevada is the worst, the Bible Belt is doing its part.

Oh, but that's ok because you go to church, right? I mean you do, right? Cause we get to hear about it every damn year at election time. Yes, we're fascinated by how you get up every Sunday morning and sing, and then you're towers of moral superiority. Yeah, that's a workable formula. Maybe us Northerners don't talk about religion as much as you because we're not so busy sinning, hmmm? Ever think of that, you self-righteous POS? No, you're too busy erecting giant stone tablets of the Ten Commandments in buildings paid for by the Northeast Liberal Elite.

Well this gravy train is over. Take your liberal-bashing, federal-tax-leaching, confederate-flag-waving, holier-than-thou, hypocritical bullsh*t and shove it up your ass.

Seems to me these Bible thumping scripture literalists would have an issue with Mitt's bizarre religious cult, with it's polygamy and polytheist history.

JR and JD, what MickeyRat stated is factual and true. Care to elaborate on how he is being "irrational?" You two, and the other extremist righties, are a perfect example of the point Bennett makes in today's 'toon. You can't handle the truth so you imagine that reality itself is biased against you. Unfortunately there are way too many sheeple just like you with minds as closed as steel vaults, and it is you guys who are "scary beyond belief" because you are incapable of even recognizing the real problems that confront us. And your stubborn refusal to acknowledge reality only exacerbates our problems. You are so hell-bent on clinging to your precious ideology of conservatism that you cannot recognize the truth, even when it smacks you in the face.

MickeyRat said, "Take your liberal-bashing, federal-tax-leaching, confederate-flag-waving, holier-than-thou, hypocritical bullsh*t and shove it up your ass." Beautiful! I'll raise my glass to that.

I think that liberals live in bizarro world. They wouldn't know reality if it bit them on the butt. How can a philosophy based on emotion liberals remind me of children going from one fantasy to the next. Immature and irrational to the core.

JD, I consider myself a liberal but I don't let any ideology determine how I believe. I don't weigh the evidence and then decide if it suits my ideology. Wherever the chips fall, that is how I base my opinion and form my beliefs.

If 98% of climate scientists said that global warming is purely a natural occurrence and human activity had nothing to do with it, then I would be denying anthropogenic global warming. But the real climate scientists are saying otherwise and it's only a bunch of hacks and pseudo-scientists spewing propaganda and contradicting them. I don't distrust science and scientists so much that I totally disbelieve them, as you rabid righties do. If I saw any historical evidence that trickle-down economics worked and that tax cuts for the wealthy actually created jobs, I would be embracing that economic philosophy to the max, because more than furthering my ideology, I actually want something that works for the good of all of us and will create a strong economy. But it has been shown repeatedly and convincingly that tax cuts for the wealthy only create more income disparity and do not in any way create more jobs. If there were plenty of scientific evidence indicating the earth was created in 6 days approximately 6000 - 8000 years ago, I would be embracing that belief with all my heart. But the evidence stacks up heavily on the side of science that the universe is about 13 billion years old, the earth is about 4 billion years old, and human beings and other life forms evolved very slowly over time. So I tend to give the nod to the actual science and not some book of primitive myths and fairy tales.

I do not believe the way I do because I am a "liberal" but because I see the evidence, I weigh it, and then form my opinions accordingly. Say what you want about me being "steeped" in my ideology but I take your accusations and rants, and those of timbo and JR and the like, about as seriously as I take the idiotic biblical babblings of the con-man and Preacher Orr.

So, tell me, degage, which of the multiple lines of discussion did you deem to be the "Official Subject?"

Sorry I can't return the compliment, degage, but I haven't found anything you've ever posted to be incisive, fresh, or above middling intelligence. Please do check into that rudely, on my part, interjected subject and see whether you can see your way clear to support our troops against unethical defense contractors. I look forward to your comprehensive response (it might take a day or so for Rush to tell you what you think), and will be letting you know, daily, whether you've strayed from the 'subject of the moment.'

Jack_, you'd be depressed if you knew of what significance your opinion is to me. I, like most, have had occasion to know many people to varying degrees of intimacy. I have known stellar mechanics who couldn't spell their name. I have know professionals who couldn't find their way to work without a Nuvi. You come in somewhere around/about the level of a duck boat captain, driving his boat through the city pointing out areas of interest and burping anecdotes through his microphone to sterile couples from Love Canal. One can almost script what you're going to say here, and that's the unkindest cut of all.

Maybe calling the Bible a book of myths and fairy tales seems insulting and disrespectful to you, but I just see it as telling the plain and simple truth. If people choose to ignore science and their common sense in order to believe in a bunch of silly ancient myths that even a 12 yr.-old should see through, they don't deserve respect. I will neither proffer nor even feign respect for such willful ignorance. Besides, I have seen many of your snide comments directed towards those who disagree with you. To hear you call me or anybody else out for being insulting and disrespectful, well, ain't that the pot callin' the kettle black, jack.
