Georgia teen pleads not guilty in sister's death

PERRY, Ga. - A 17-year-old Houston County girl has pleaded not guilty to a murder charge in the shooting death of her 12-year-old sister.

The Telegraph of Macon reports Carmen Collins was arraigned Wednesday in Houston County Superior Court for shooting her sister, Ja'Nai, on July 3 and setting a fire inside the family's home in Kathleen, an unincorporated town about 10 miles south of Warner Robins.

Authorities say they believe Carmen Collins shot her sister with a .40-caliber handgun and fled with the family's dog to Columbus.

Houston County Public Defender Nick White is representing Collins and says he believes others were involved and that his client will be exonerated. White says Collins has denied killing her sister and said she did not leave town willingly.
