Two concerts this weekend will feature participants in Lee University's Honor Band for high-school musicians.

• Friday, Nov. 16, they'll be special guests at a performance by Lee's Symphonic Band, Jazz Ensemble and Wind Ensemble, starting at 7:30 p.m.

• Saturday, Nov. 17, they'll show what they've learned in a concert to culminate their three-day clinic at 1:30 p.m.

Both concerts will be held in Conn Center, 1053 Church St., SW, on the Cleveland, Tenn., campus. Admission to both is free.

Honor Band 2012 feature 84 students from 25 high schools across five states. They begin rehearsing today, Nov. 15, under the baton of Dr. David Holsinger, conductor of Lee's Wind Ensemble. Rehearsals continue through Saturday morning before culminating in the afternoon performance.

Their program will be selected from the following: "By the Light of the Polar Star" by John Philip Sousa, "Black Granite" by James L. Hosay, "American Faces" and "Solemn Hymn and Rowdy Dances" by David R. Holsinger, "Lux Aurumque" by Eric Whitacre and "Golden Plume" by Will Huff.

This is the 12th year for the Lee University Honor Band. Selection is based on information submitted by the students and recommendations from their band directors.
