Steven Fox won the U.S. Amateur and the Havemeyer Trophy.

Those helped University of Tennessee at Chattanooga golf coach Mark Guhne sign the most-decoracted procpect in his eight-year career.

Ewan Scott, who won the Scottish Golf Union boys' order of merit, will join the Mocs next fall.

"People were talking about how much Fox's win would help in recruiting, but I was thinking down the line," Guhne said. "It helped a tremendous amount in landing Ewan."

Scott won the Scottish order of merit with 775 points -- which was 130 points better than the runner-up -- played in the Dunhill Links Championship, and qualified for the British Amateur.

"He felt like the quality of golf was more important that the amount of scholarship offered," Guhne said. "Seeing the Havemeyer, having two guys in the second stage of Q-school right now, showed that this is where he can accomplish goals of winning the British Am and turning pro."

Guhne already had a commitment from Stuart Thomas of Farragut before Fox won the biggest prize in amateur golf. Brooks Thomas of Ringgold High was leaning toward UTC when Fox won. McCallie senior Andrew Weathers had been considering UTC his entire McCallie career. All three signed national letters of intent Wednesday.

So did the Scottish star.
