Flames rise to 6-0; Lady Flames fall

Lee University's men's basketball Flames improved to 6-0 by winning their Southern States Athletic Conference opener Friday night, 87-67 at Auburn-Montgomery.

Will Barnes scored 21 points, Chase Dunn had 19 points and six assists and Corey Billingsley had 15 points for Lee, ranked 15th in NAIA Division I.

The unranked Auburn-Montgomery women went to 6-0 with a 54-49 win over the ninth-ranked Lady Flames, who took a 47-45 lead with 3:08 to go. Hollie German scored 17 points for Lee (3-1, 0-1), and Brooke Hamby had six assists. AUM's LaKenya Drayton had 22 points with 11 rebounds and made 14 of 18 free throws. She scored six points in the last three minutes.

* At McKenzie, Tenn., Hampton Mack had 16 points, six rebounds and four steals as Tennessee Temple beat Missouri Valley College 66-57. P.J. Whittaker had 10 points and five steals and Travaris Clarke and Rashaud Bell each scored nine points for the Crusaders.

* At Lookout Mountain, Covenant's Scots downed Emory & Henry 66-60 as Callum Sears scored 13 points, Colton McGriff contributed 12 points and eight rebounds and T.J. Cox and Chris Boyd had 10 points each. The Wasps' Malcolm Green had 23 points.

* At Columbia, Tenn., Cleveland State swept a TCCAA doubleheader with the Lady Cougars downing Columbia State 65-51 and the undefeated Cougars winning 91-70 as Travis Jones scored 30 points and Ralph Eason had 18 points and nine steals. Chelsea Jones, Robyn Anthony and Ciera Anderson had 10 points each in the women's win, Jones with eight rebounds.
