In the year of its 45th season of basketball, Cleveland State Community College is making plans to begin a sports hall of fame.

"We are celebrating 45 year of men's basketball this year, so we thought this would be a good time to recognize athletics at CSCC and people who have made an impact on athletics," athletic director and baseball coach Mike Policastro said in a recent school release.

"There are not many junior colleges that do this, but it has been in discussion for the past couple of years, and with the anniversary coming up, we felt like it was the perfect time to do it."

Policastro said sports figures from the 1967-80 years would be recognized in the initial class, but athletes and others from after 1980 would be added later.

The AD is on the committee that will review the nominees and select the inductees for the Feb. 9 ceremony between the home basketball games against Chattanooga State.

Other members are current basketball coaches Lee Cigliano and Dan Lumpkin, TCCAA commissioner and former Cleveland State AD and vice president Jim Cigliano and former coaches Steve Longley, Hugh Walker, Tom Losh, Tony Cavett and Jason Sewell

"We have a great history of people on this selection committee," Policastro said. "Not just because they coached at CSCC, but we thought they would bring great perspective to the process because of their history; they all have had much success during their time here."

The public may nominate individuals for the second induction class between now and next August. Nomination forms are at cscougars.com.

Besides outstanding achievements at the school as athletes, coaches or noteworthy teams, nominees will be considered for meritorious or community service in the form of "a significant and lasting contribution to Cleveland State athletics," according to the release.
