Fire destroys Dallas Bay auto repair shop

An auto repair business in the Dallas Bay area of Hamilton County was destroyed during a fire Saturday.

Steve Brown had been warming the garage, which is attached to his home, before working on a customer's car, when he noticed smoke coming from the garage, according to a news release.

When Dallas Bay Volunteer Fire Department members arrived, exploding propane tanks kept them from entering the building immediately, the release stated. They had to wait for the propane to burn off before extinguishing the fire.

The business was destroyed, a long with a 1974 two-door Impala. The owner had no insurance, the release stated.

The cause of the fire is unknown, and is under investigation by the Hamilton County Sheriff's Office.

The Soddy-Daisy Fire Department, Red Bank Fire Department and Sequoyah Volunteer Fire Department also helped fight the blaze.
