THINGS I WISH MY KIDS WOULD ASK ME

EDITOR'S NOTE: Barry Courter has a 23-year-old son who graduated from college last year and an 19-year-old daughter who is a freshman in college.

Q: Dad, we are pretty lucky to have most of our family right here close by. Did you growing up?

A: No. I know lots of people who don't. And you are right, we are lucky. I wish now I had spent more time asking my grandparents and great aunts and uncles about their lives and their histories. Once that knowledge is gone, it is very hard to go back and track that information down. It is a big part of who we are. Plus, grand-parents make really good babysitters.

INSTAGOBBLE

With platters of delicious Thanksgiving food being served on elegant tables throughout the U.S., the setting was just right for Instagram to break its records, and it did. More than 10 million photos whose captions included Thanksgiving-related terms were posted. For several hours, more than 200 photos were being uploaded every second, Instagram said in a blog post last week. Earlier this month, Instagram put up a post boasting about its numbers during election night. But on that day, only 250,000 photos uploaded had certain election-related tags. That's a big difference. Now we'll have to see whether Christmas can top Thanksgiving.
