More than 1,900 MLGW customers still without power after Friday night storm

More than 1,900 homes and businesses served by Memphis Light, Gas and Water Division remained without power late afternoon Saturday following an intense thunderstorm Friday night that raked Midtown and parts of East Memphis with winds of up 45 mph.

As of 4:50 p.m. MLGW reported 117 outages affecting 1,905 customers spread across Shelby County from Millington to Whitehaven. Earlier in the day, more than 4,700 homes and businesses had been without power.

National Weather Service meteorologist Andy Chiuppi said the thunderstorm trailed a strong cold front that sent temperatures plummeting late Friday. Winds of up to 45 mph were reported, he said.
