Crash during chase kills man
Police in East Tennessee said a man who was caught stealing an all-terrain vehicle crashed while fleeing officers and was killed.
Grainger County officials told The Knoxville News Sentinel that 51-year-old Kyle "Eddie" Brooks, of Maryville, died when his truck crashed on Highway 131. The crash was initially reported as occurring Sunday, but the Grainger County Sheriff's Office said it happened in late August.
Officers said the weight of the ATV, combined with the curvy road and high speed were factors in the crash.
A male passenger in Brooks' truck was taken to University of Tennessee Hospital. His name wasn't released.

Lioness gets out; visitors locked in
Knoxville Zoo visitors were the ones confined after a 350-pound lioness nudged open a gate.
Zoo spokeswoman Tina Rolen told The Knoxville News Sentinel that visitors never were in danger Sunday because Zarina the lioness never got out of the lion habitat building. Still, visitors were hustled into zoo buildings as a precaution.
Keepers used a tranquilizer dart to subdue Zarina and then moved her to her own habitat section of the building. The event lasted about a half-hour.

Islamic Center to open clinic
Muslims in East Alabama are planning to open a free health care clinic to serve people who lack medical insurance in Calhoun County.
The Anniston Star reports that the Anniston Islamic Center plans to begin operating the Salam Free Clinic next month in Anniston.
Abdul Kazi is president of the center and also an ophthalmologist who treats eye diseases. Kazi says equipment for the clinic was donated, and the clinic is for everyone, not just Muslims.
Some Christian churches operate similar clinics for the uninsured in Alabama.
