From Queensrÿche and Nirvana to Pearl Jam and Death Cab for Cutie, Seattle is a city often listed alongside Nashville, Los Angeles and Austin, Texas, as birthplaces of great American music.
Formed in 2004, Band of Horses is one of the city’s latest musical exports to achieve national attention. After sharing the stage with Iron and Wine in 2005, the Washington quintet was signed to Sub Pop Records, the same label as indie rock giants such as Blitzen Trapper, The Shins, Fleet Foxes and Wolf Parade.
Now based out of Charleston, S.C., Band of Horses is touring in support of its fourth studio album “Mirage Rock,” released Sept. 18. Tonight, Band of Horses will take the stage at Track 29 after a date Thursday in Knoxville. Black Mountain, N.C.-based indie folksters Floating Action will open the show.
On Monday, the show had fewer than 100 tickets left from an initial pool of 1,800, said Track 29 owner Adam Kinsey.
“It’s on track to be another sold-out show at Track 29, which is terrific,” he said. “I think it’s absolutely a get for us, no question.”
Founder Ben Bridewell’s vocals have been compared to Neil Young’s. He is joined onstage by lead guitarist Tyler Ramsey, bassist Bill Reynolds, keyboardist Ryan Monroe and drummer Creighton Barrett.
According to Setlist.fm, a user-generated set list aggregator, recent shows on this tour have featured a mix of material off “Mirage Rock” and selections from the band’s back catalog.
