University of Tennessee at Chattanooga senior golfer Steven Fox shot a 3-under-par 68 in the final round to move up into a tie for second place individually and help the Mocs rise to fourth place in the AutoTrader.com Collegiate Classic held at Berkeley Hills Country Club in Duluth, Ga. Georgia Southern won the 16-team tournament with a 54-hole 859, and Georgia State was second at 866 with Mercer next at 874 and UTC at 881. Seventh-ranked Georgia finished sixth at 888. Fox's 212 was two shots more than medalist Dykes Harbin of South Carolina. UTC's Chris Robb and Liam Johnston tied for 11th and 17th at 219 and 220, but the next Moc was Michael Monroe at 233. "We were solid," Mocs coach Mark Guhne said. "I would've liked to have seen more birdies, but there weren't a lot of birdies out here this week. Par was a really good score, and we had a lot of those. This is a team that is still learning and growing, and I like the direction we are headed."
• Junior Brett Patterson from McMinnville tied for 15th at 219 in leading the Middle Tennessee State men's golfers to a 10th-place finish Tuesday in the 12-team Jerry Pate National Intercollegiate tournament at Vestavia Hills, Ala.
• Hixson resident Richard Powell from Notre Dame High School led the King College men's golf team to the championship of the State Farm Intercollegiate tournament with a second-place 142 Monday and Tuesday at Pineville, Ky. Three other King golfers were in the top 10 as they held off host Lincoln Memorial by two strokes. Cortnee Young from Walker Valley was the second leading King women's player in a fifth-place team finish in the Patsy Rendleman Invitational in Salisbury, N.C.; she tied for 29th with a 161.
Baseball
• Organizers of the Knothole Gang Reunion and Community Open House at Engel Stadium are prepared to feed hot dog meals to 300 people at Thursday's 6 p.m. free event, but there is no limit on how many can attend. The Knothole Gang was created by Strang Nicklin in the 1920s and expanded by Joe Engel during his subsequent ownership of the Chattanooga Lookouts, as a way to keep local youth doing well in school and their communities in earning passes to ballgames. Former Chattanooga Times sports editor Buck Johnson will be the main speaker, the Engel Foundation will present an update of plans for the stadium, film footage will be shown and Chattanooga Public Library staffers will provide scanning services for Knothole and Lookouts-related memorabilia. Sunday from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. at McCallie School, Dodgers pitching coach Rick Honeycutt will head the third annual Legends of the Game free baseball clinic for ages 6-18, with Braves pitcher Cory Gearrin and former pro players Clay Parker, Tim Costo and Sal Rende taking part.
• Chattanooga State is holding a baseball alumni day on Oct. 27, beginning at noon with a "meet and greet" at the baseball/softball fieldhouse, and coach Greg Dennis is extending a special invitation for all former players to attend, along with fans. "We're going to give them an opportunity to see the new facilities," Dennis said, "and we will then begin preparations to allow the alums to play or work out on the field and have some fun. We will have either a game or batting practice, depending on the numbers." He said he already had commitments from Thomas Gray, Drew Bowlin and others from his 2007 team that was ranked No. 1 in the nation, "but we would love to have guys from the Derek Lance, Bob Brotherton and Greg Shook [coaching] eras come out also and see the place."

• The Covenant women's soccer team, ranked nationally in the Christian college association, fell to 11-3-1 for the season with a 1-0 loss Tuesday at Salem College. Tarryn Bundy scored unassisted at 61:28 for Salem (12-3). Covenant led 12-7 in shots.
• Brenda Velazquez scored two goals and Liz Adams had a goal and two assists as the Tennessee Temple University women's soccer team won 4-2 on Tuesday at Wesleyan College in Macon, Ga. Ashley Gallo added a penalty kick for Temple (6-9-1).
Volleyball
• Jamie Sue Wilson had 12 kills and 11 digs as Sewanee won 18-25, 25-22, 26-24, 25-15 in Southern Athletic Association volleyball Tuesday night at Centre College. Lucy Riddle had nine kills and six block assists and Rebecca Hannigan added seven kills for Sewanee (10-10, 4-8), while Jamie Kosman and Kayla Sewell had 24 and 18 digs.
