For some old-fashioned Halloween fun, the C.E. Blevins Avian Learning Center is hosting a Friday night hike in the woods in search of owls.

Guests are invited to join the center's staff for a short presentation on owls followed by the night trail walk.

If the weather cooperates and the night sky is clear, the walk also will include a discussion of constellations and bird folklore.

Once back at the center, the two-hour event will close with some children's craft activities.

The Avian Learning Center is situated on four acres of land near the Georgia Scenic Byway in Whitfield County. It is named in honor of C.E. Blevins, former teacher, missionary, minister and folk artist who handmade replicas of eggs of more than 1,200 birds around the world.

Lynn Grabowski, program director of the center, said all ages of children are welcome with their parents, but parents are advised that the trail is not conducive to strollers. Children under 5 may not enjoy the night trail as much as older siblings. Reservations are requested, but walk-ups are welcome.
