The fall season came to a perfect conclusion for the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga women's golf team.

It ended with a win.

The Mocs won the Lady Paladin Invitational at Furman Golf Course by shooting a 32-over 896 to beat host Furman by five shots.

"We've won this before, and it led us to having an successful year," coach Colette Murray said while driving back. "It leaves that taste in your mouth of winning and success, and we'll be able to carry that until next spring."

UTC junior Marion Duvernay earned medalist honors by shooting a 3-over 219. She beat junior teammate Jordan Britt by two strokes, and freshman Emily McLennan tied for fourth at 6 over.

"I'm feeling very happy with the team win and the individual win," said Duvernay, who made 14 birdies over three rounds. "I think I had a little bit of everything. I made some putts.

"We almost took all the trophies."

The Mocs combined to shoot a 6-over 294 in the final round with Britt scoring a 71, McLennan a 73, Duvernay a 75 and sophomore Porsche Campbell adding a 75.

"Today was the only day that everybody showed up," Murray said. "I know we've got a lot of work to do before spring. I'm excited about what we've got going and the direction we're going."

UTC junior medals for Mocs

UTC men's golf coach shook hands with junior Chris Robb following the final round of the Bridgestone Golf Collegiate.

"He had no idea why," Guhne said over the phone.

It was a congratulatory shake. Robb won the tournament at Grandover Resort East Course in Greensboro, N.C. He finished with at 9-under 207 to beat Mississippi State's Axel Boasson by one shot after they started the 53rd hole tied for the lead. Robb made a birdie, Boasson bogeyed for a two-shot difference going to the last hole. Robb held him off with a par.

"I won a nice crystal bowl that will go in my room for now, but I might take it home at Christmas and give it to my parents," said Robb, a native of England. "It wasn't one of my best ball-striking tournaments, but I scrambled well and got up-and-down from everywhere."

Robb's effort helped the Mocs fire a 1-over 865 and finish runner-up to MSU by four shots. UTC clipped Iowa State by one and the next-best teams by 20 strokes in the Mocs' final fall-season event.

"I think we got a little better each week," coach Mark Guhne said via cell phone. "I feel good about our chances in the spring. We can come out from this tournament with confidence."
