CARTERSVILLE, Ga.

Paving coming to Dade, Walker

The Georgia Department of Transportation has awarded a $990,000 contract for paving nearly eight miles of state Route 157 in Dade and Walker counties, according to a news release.

The project area begins south of Mount Olive Road in Walker County and extends to the Tennessee line, the release states. Work is scheduled to be completed by the end of July 2013, according to the release. Information on construction and lane closure schedules will be announced later.

Fall events set at historic village

Historic Rugby opens its fall season of events by welcoming visitors to homes and historic buildings not usually seen by the public.

In a news release, Historic Rugby Executive Director Mike Harris said a Sept. 29 tour will include more than 20 buildings, including new homes in the historic district and historic private homes.

"This is a rare opportunity for our visitors to get a peek inside some very special and beautiful homes and enjoy an early fall day in the village," Harris said.

Tours will be held from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and will include Uffington House, Ingleside, Oak Lodge and Ruralia, homes built by the original colonists.

OCOEE, Tenn.

Man drowns in Polk County

A 21-year-old man drowned in Polk County on Saturday at the Horns Creek Cabins, according to officials.

The West Polk County Volunteer Fire and Rescue department posted on its Facebook page that the victim was with a group of people, who pulled his body from the water. He was taken to SkyRidge Medical Center in Cleveland, where he was pronounced dead.

The victim's name was not available Sunday evening.
