$448,000 grant aimed at Riverfront Greenway project

HARRIMAN, Tenn. - Harriman is getting nearly $448,000 to begin its Riverfront Greenway project.

The greenway is part of the city's plan to improve development along the Emory River. The first phase is a 1,500-foot-long paved trail that will provide access to a park and soccer fields.

Tennessee Gov. Bill Haslam said in a news release that it was wonderful to see communities across the state creating a network of greenways, trails and walkways for residents and visitors.

The transportation enhancement grant is made possible through a federal program administered by the Tennessee Department of Transportation.

TDOT Commissioner John Schroer said the program has helped communities across the state revitalize downtowns, highlight historic areas, promote alternative transportation and increase economic development.
