Bennett Archive: FOX

about Clay Bennett...

The son of a career army officer, Bennett led a nomadic life, attending ten different schools before graduating in 1980 from the University of North Alabama with degrees in Art and History. After brief stints as a staff artist at the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette and the Fayetteville (NC) Times, he went on to serve as the editorial cartoonist for the St. Petersburg Times (1981-1994) and The Christian Science Monitor (1997-2007), before joining the staff of the ...

AndrewLohr wrote: "Ha. We can, of course, [depend on] Mr Bennett and alprova to criticize Democrats when they do anything wrong."

Your version of wrong and mine differ greatly. But that goes without having to declare it.

Personally, I offered full criticism of Debbie Wasserman Schultz the day before yesterday for her horrible and provable lies. The woman is the spokesperson for the Democratic Party, and she needs a new job.

"(I put it to y'all that defending slavery, defending segregation, and defending the murder of unborn babies might be considered wrong.)"

Name a current Democrat who defends slavery. Name a current Democrat who defends segregation. On the other hand, Senator Rand Paul and a few other select Republicans would be perfectly content with segregation and practice it to the nth degree in their daily lives.

Regarding abortion, that is an issue that will never be settled to anyone's complete satisfaction, no matter how many times it is argued by men, who will ever have the responsibility of carrying inside their bodies, a baby that is unwanted for a plethora of reasons, a baby that they cannot afford to take care of, or a baby that was conceived as the result of incest or rape.

And finally, you will never be asked or required to carry to term, a baby that threatens your own life if your pregnancy continues.

It's very easy for people to criticise others when looking at them from a position of advantage, or from one in which they will never, ever be subjected to.

Wrong? You have no idea or the first clue to what you demand of any woman when you attempt to force her to submit to carrying to term an embryo under any or all of the circumstances above.

And until men are truly equal in such a debate, under all criteria, I wouldn't blame any woman on the face of this Earth for telling each and every man to shut the hell up about it.

Indeed, there doesn't seem to be a shortage of instigators and loons. From what I’ve been able to gather, it appears the gunman involved are members of an Islamist group called Ansar al Sharia and the movie involved was produed by an Israeli-American real estate developer:

"The movie, "Innocence of Muslims," was directed and produced by an Israeli-American real-estate developer who characterized it as a political effort to call attention to the hypocrisies of Islam. It has been promoted by Terry Jones, the Florida pastor whose burning of Qurans previously sparked deadly riots around the world."

It is the behavior we are fighting not the religion. Terrorist use the Muslim religion as justification just as others have used a different faith to justify aggression throughout history. Check out the reason for the founders seeking an escape from the kings imposing of a religion, taxes and denial of other liberties. They sought and fought for the freedom to practice the religion of their choice. Nothing in the constitution requires any religion or justifies denying others the right to practice or endorse a religious activity as long as others are not required to do so.

FOX news is a good source of information without their opinion of an event etc. just as CNBC, CNN and others are. I read the NY times, the Washington Post and other sources to learn of events and do my best to ignore journalist opinions.

But of course. Everything is the fault of Barack Obama. Even this, was triggered nearly four years following what you people claim was "apology tour." It's amazing how your mind works.

It couldn't at all have been the result of an insidious attack on the religion of Islam, or their prophet, by a Jewish-American seeking fame and fortune, could it? And it could never have festered outrage after more than a decade of anti-Muslim sentiment expressed by gullible and ignorant Americans, eh?

"The muzzies are attacking us now with impunity in Egypt and accross the mid-east because they know Obama has no objection to their attacks."

Ah...yes. The President, just this morning, released a statement condoning the protests and the rocket attack that has taken the lives of four Americans, right? Is that your take?

As predictable as the sunrise, the idiot fringe are worming their way out of the rotted trees they call home.

Based solely on Reince Preibus imbecilic charge, “Obama sympathizes with attackers in Egypt. Sad and pathetic.” Immediately cometh the bellowing: “Islamists are killing Americans and the damn President apologizes to them!” Or, “Obama's groveling before the Imams of Islam has now cost us our Libyan ambassador. The muzzies are attacking us now with impunity in Egypt and across the mid-east because they know Obama has no objection to their attacks.” I especially like the following pile of horse sh*t, “The U.S. embassy in Egypt has apologized to Mr. Obama's good friends in the muzzie world for American insensitivity.”

Of course the, 'I'll say anything' Mittens blasts “I’m outraged by the attacks on American diplomatic missions in Libya and Egypt and by the death of an American consulate worker [sic] in Benghazi. It’s disgraceful that the Obama administration’s first response was not to condemn attacks on our diplomatic missions, but to sympathize with those who waged the attacks.”

Why did Romney issue such an utterly stupid comment? A) Because he’ll say ANYTHING to make himself look like he believes in..well...anything! And B) Because he’s seeking the votes of right wing Christian(Taliban like) nutcases - Period. Romney is an embarrassment to our country. He has brought his profit/loss attitude to everything including the capitalization of the death of our ambassador. What a POS!

Continued from above:

For the record, here’s Obama’s full statement after the death of Chris Stevens and his colleagues:

“I strongly condemn the outrageous attack on our diplomatic facility in Benghazi, which took the lives of four Americans, including Ambassador Chris Stevens. Right now, the American people have the families of those we lost in our thoughts and prayers. They exemplified America's commitment to freedom, justice, and partnership with nations and people around the globe, and stand in stark contrast to those who callously took their lives.

I have directed my Administration to provide all necessary resources to support the security of our personnel in Libya, and to increase security at our diplomatic posts around the globe. While the United States rejects efforts to denigrate the religious beliefs of others, we must all unequivocally oppose the kind of senseless violence that took the lives of these public servants.

On a personal note, Chris was a courageous and exemplary representative of the United States. Throughout the Libyan revolution, he selflessly served our country and the Libyan people at our mission in Benghazi. As Ambassador in Tripoli, he has supported Libya's transition to democracy. His legacy will endure wherever human beings reach for liberty and justice. I am profoundly grateful for his service to my Administration, and deeply saddened by this loss.

The brave Americans we lost represent the extraordinary service and sacrifices that our civilians make every day around the globe. As we stand united with their families, let us now redouble our own efforts to carry their work forward. “

Hmm, I didn’t notice an apology in there.

Tell us oh war mongering neocon citizens. Is it time once again to start bombing? Shh, listen. What’s that sound way off in the distance? Blowback?

Hearing what you want to hear and condemning a man based on what you think you hear, especially if that is the proof submitted, is less than illogical.

Keep trying.

"What, Easy, like abortion, birth control, bogus war on women? That's about all I hear out of the Dems. A fact, plain y simple."

Those are in the mix. But the war on women is real. When you try to pass legislation against women's reproductive rights and deny them birth control coverage all while trying to change the language on rape laws, I think that would classify as a war on women. I think you would be fairly upset if the government tired to pass laws that regulated the number of times and the amount you could ejaculate, denied you coverage for your erectile disfunction medication and tried to change the language of rape laws to include the requirement of a written letter from the woman identifying that she did consent to sexual intercourse.

But there are other very important issues like the economy, the student-loan debt bubble, healthcare, Medicare, Social Security, same-sex marriage, global warming.... and the list goes on.

THOSE are the facts. Not your misguided musings.

Obama will surpass Carter as the Worse! I still put Clinton in first place when it comes to what happened on 9/11. See Janet Reno actions below.

“In 2005, Bush established the National Counterterrorism Center in McLean, Va., where 200 analysts from the CIA and FBI sit side by side analyzing threats 24 hours a day. A secure video conference takes place three times a day with all members of the intelligence community and the White House to analyze threats and parcel out leads.

Bush’s USA Patriot Act tore down the so-called wall imposed by Attorney General Janet Reno, a wall that prevented FBI agents from sharing information with each other and with the CIA. The much-maligned Patriot Act has allowed the FBI to wiretap a terrorist regardless of what phone he uses, an authority the FBI already had in organized crime cases. The National Security Agency (NSA) intercepts ordered by Bush opened for the FBI a window on terrorist activity within the U.S.

Since 9/11, the FBI, CIA, and the military have rolled up some 5,000 terrorists worldwide — a headline you will never see in The New York Times. Thus, many plots are never hatched, because terrorists have been killed, arrested, or sent back to their own countries and imprisoned.

By tripling the number of drones on order, Bush made it possible for President Obama to take out dozens of key al-Qaida leaders. And as Leon Panetta said when he was CIA director, Bush’s coercive interrogation techniques, including waterboarding, provided clues that helped lead to Osama bin Laden’s compound in Pakistan.

Because of Bush’s decisions, America has not had a successful foreign terrorist attack since 9/11. Instead of hailing the efforts to connect the dots, the media demonize Bush and those who are trying to protect us, portraying the tools that uncover clues to plots as “spying on innocent Americans.” When a plot is successfully rolled up, the media minimize it.

The media have even managed to portray Saddam Hussein as relatively benign. But as revealed in my book “The Terrorist Watch,” in seven months of secret debriefings, Saddam admitted to FBI agent George Piro that he planned to resume his weapons of mass destruction program — including developing nuclear weapons — within a year.

Many in the media could not bear to hear that Bush might have been at least partially right about Saddam, and few newspapers reported the story.

While the media underplay the threats and distort descriptions of the measures needed to uncover the next plot, they undermine the war on terror by revealing secrets of how the FBI and CIA are trying to stop the next attack.

If the media revealed real abuses, they would be justified in exposing them, but that has not been the case. Since 9/11, the courts and Congress have allowed all of the Bush programs for uncovering terrorists to continue.”

Does Romney know this? I’m only asking because I've noted he has a slew of neo-cons working for him - starting with that divisive hothead John Bolton:

“Bolton is one of eight Romney advisers who signed letters drafted by the Project for a New American Century, an influential neoconservative advocacy group founded in the 1990s, urging the Clinton and Bush administrations to attack Iraq.

PNAC founding member Paula Dobriansky, leading advocate of Bush’s ill-fated “freedom agenda” as an official in the State Department, recently joined the Romney campaign full time. Another PNAC founder, Eliot Cohen, counselor to Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice from 2007 to 2009, wrote the foreword to the Romney campaign’s foreign policy white paper, which was titled, perhaps not coincidentally, “An American Century.”

Cohen was a tutor to Bush administration neocons. Following 9/11, he dubbed the war on terror “World War IV,” arguing that Iraq, being an “obvious candidate, having not only helped Al Qaeda, but…developed weapons of mass destruction,” should be its center. In 2009 Cohen urged the Obama administration to “actively seek the overthrow” of Iran’s government.”

Dear MyMy,

George Bush and his crime syndicate (also known as the Texas Mafia) are to put it plainly – war criminals. It is directly because of them that: “We have become a nation of euphemisms. It's not spying on the American people, it is "national security." It's not holding someone in a hellhole without charges or trial, it is "indefinite detention." It's not kidnapping, it is "extraordinary rendition." It's not murder or assassination, it is "targeted killing." It's not torture, it is "enhanced interrogation." It's not wildly and patently illegal and immoral on its face, it is "war"... We are a lessened nation... and much of the damage has been done by our own hand. It is one thing for people to react with fear and rage after an outrageous act of violence. It is quite another for the leaders of those people to exploit that fear and rage for their own dark and greedy purposes." :William Rivers Pitt

Bush sat stunned like a 5th grader being asked to solve calculus equations after he was told what was happening on 9/11. He must have thought he and his administration were done for. But they managed, with the help of a stenographic and incurious media (Fox being the best/ worst), to lie their way out of it and convince the unsophisticated trailer trash it all somehow is Bill Clinton's fault. Jaw dropping - Pathetic.

Love, Limric

P.S. Don’t forget, the 9/11 killers were all Saudis. While these particular men weren’t hand holding buddies of the Bush clan, Osama's family sure was. And then, we went to war for 10 years against Iraq. As Gomer Pyle used to say, “Surrprahze Surrprahze!!”

Funny imagery, EaTn. And I very much agree. This past weekend, Romney was campaigning with the likes of Pat Robertson and now he’s spouting off about incidents started by crazies like this wannabe James Bond mentioned in the L.A. Times:

“A consultant who worked on the anti-Islam film that has sparked outrage in the Middle East and led to the death of a U.S. ambassador and three other Americans said he did not expect violence and doesn't "give a darn" if Muslims find it offensive.

Steve Klein, a Hemet insurance agent, compared himself to an unsophisticated James Bond" who ferrets out terrorist cells in California and Muslims who sympathize with terrorists. . .

. . . The Southern Poverty Law Center has a lengthy file on Klein, who has been active in anti-Muslim and extremist groups for decades. According to the center, in 1977 Klein founded Courageous Christians United, which has staged protests outside mosques and abortion clinics. In 2007 he sued the city of San Clemente after it ordered him to stop planting anti-illegal immigration fliers on cars.

More recently, Klein has headed up a group called Concerned Citizens for the First Amendment, which last year launched a campaign of distributing fliers at high schools, many of them "depicting the Prophet Mohammed as a sex-crazed pedophile," according to the center.

For the last couple of years, Klein has hosted a weekly program on an Arabic Christian outlet called The Way TV. An office manager at the station said the channel -- broadcast in the U.S., Canada and the Middle East -- focuses mainly on spreading Christianity, but that Klein's program was focused on criticizing Islam."

Nakoula, who said he was a Coptic Christian, denied he directed the film and said he knew Bacile. There is an interesting parallel. The last American president to bomb Libya was Reagan. It was a symbolic move that Gaddafi survived quite easily. Gaddafi was then behind the Pan Am bombing two years later.

Gaddafi remained in power for another 25 years.

This week we already have a condemnation from the government of Libya, who is friendly to the United States.

The blooming idiots in California who made this film (and then lied to make it appear that Jews financed it) are responsible for all of the fallout to come. They may be stirring the pot on behalf of other interests, but to my eye they would appear to be the Three Stooges of international intrigue, were the results not so tragic.

Iran has been calling for the death to all of Israel for decades. They have not once directly launched an attack to date. Iran is well aware that if they so much as fired one shot that were to land on Israeli soil, that the full brunt of the U.S. Military would be brought upon them.

I am not privy to U.S. intelligence to determine for myself that Iran's nuclear program is being produced strictly for energy or not, and neither is anyone else opining on the subject in here.

What I do know is that this nation, our nation, cannot afford one more red cent to be spent waging a protracted "preemtive" war, to satisfy the whims of Benjamin Netanyhu. Time must be given to attempt to bring Iran to its senses. If Netanyahu wants to be the next GWB, who wants to fire the first shot, as he has been threatening to do for more than a year, then let him do it all on his own. He doesn't need anyone's permission.

"Imagine if you had a neighbor who threatened your life on a daily basis. And one night you peek in his garage to see him stuffing clips for his assault rifles, would you sit idly by and do nothing?"

Nobody has peeked into Iran's garage and seen them loading any guns. Suspicion is all there is at this point based on flimsy satellite imagery and a boatload of threats from Iran. Iran's rhetoric is very similar to that of Saddam Husssein's. All mouth and as it turned out, and nothing to back it up.

If you are so gun-ho for this nation to attack Iran, then I suggest you to sign yourself up for military duty tomorrow, or sit back down in that computer chair and let the Gov't take care of the situation as they see fit.

We have a different Real Politik here that allows people to be offensive and idiotic and we leave them to appear that way for the world to see.

I do like our way better. However, I am not so firm in my opinion that I am willing to get other people killed over it.

That harm, to me, is greater than the harm of keeping my thoughts to myself from time to time.

Something Romney might consider for the future.

Toes,

"So you're saying that it's ok to kill people if your feelings get hurt from a video you don't like?"

That's religion for you. But Miraweb isn't saying that.

"If you give them a pass because you claim their "feelings are hurt" because of a lousy video then you are beyond help."

No one gets a pass, jackass. But why would anyone make such a film in the first place? The filmmakers were fully aware of what radical Muslims are capable of. Heck, Terry Jones wanted to show the video in his church. What does that tell you?

Does that let the murderers off the hook? Hell no! What those individuals did was deplorable and evil.

I've said it before but religion poisons everything. Islam just happens to be the biggest cobra in the snake pit these days.

Need I remind you that on September 11, 2001, when this nation was under assault, big time, then President George Walker Bush didn't hightail it to the White House to monitor the situation, did he?

Like I stated earlier, nothing the man has done or could do, would ever satisfy you, but you Sir are firing rounds from the cheapest of seats imaginable, and not one of them will ever find a target.

The man did what he could do as President and this very second is monitoring the situation as is necessary. Just as GWB was on 9/11, wherever he is at any given moment, he is but a phone call away.

How many people in the United States do you figure altered their lives for one second, outside of the immediate families of those who were killed over there?

Mitt Romney didn't alter his life to honor the dead. Paul Ryan didn't alter his life to honor the dead. Yet those two clowns took political pot shots at the President from behind podiums all day long today, but nary a word has been forthcoming from you about that.

Let's be clear.

This is a tragedy, but this is not 9-11.

The important things are happening. The embassies are being protected. The navy is now at the coast. The government is working. American lives are being protected.

Degage - I would be careful about that standard. Obama did cancel an event. Romney didn't cancel any of his fundraisers. He didn't even reschedule like he did in Israel when he planned his big donor dinner during a major Jewish day of mourning.

There is no evidence that the Libyan government had any hand in this attack. Secy of State Clinton's speech was very clear that Libyans were helping to protect the embassy staff and it was Libyans who took the casualties to the hospital.

The Libyan government was once our enemy. That is no longer the case, though Libya will be a difficult and dangerous place for some years to come.

People like to offer that to show any weakness to radical Islam gives them reason to attack. Some would even say that offering an apology for any wrongs only enrages them more.

We like to think that as United States citizens, that we are peaceful, moral, just, righteous in all things.

Many times, Muslims have let it be known that to defile their holy book or to produce any image of their prophet, good or bad, is as vile an insult as if you walked up to them and slapped them across their face.

Every time violence results from acts of religious insults that Muslims take much more seriously than we do, someone in our country steps forward to one-up the last one.

This one may or may not have caused the deaths of four very innocent Americans. The attack may well have been planned as it did occur on the anniversary of 9/11. It's all merely speculation at this point. Heads are already starting to roll as the investigation into what happened unfolds.

The enemy we face is not Islam or Muslims of the world. The enemy we face are those who hide behind a religion, and who bastardize it for their own self-interest or out of pure hatred, just as they hid behind innocent people to shield themselves from harm when our military was fighting them in Iraq.

How many others will have to die before people wake up and realize that any religious persecution is wrong? Christians of today have no clue what true religious persecution is, yet they pretend to be persecuted all the time.

It's past time to recognize that Islam is not going away, that more than the vast majority of Muslims are not evil, nor prone to violence, or out to kill Americans.

Just as a person who kills in the name of Jesus Christ or God is not a true Christian, a person who kills in the name of Allah is not a true Muslim.

Repeat the above sentence to yourselves as many times as it takes until it starts to make complete sense to you.

Have you ever felt the need to read that particular instruction yourself in the Qu'ran, or are you content in taking someone else's word that you read that it exists as presented?

Is it presented as many Biblical acriptures are, in that they were instructions to those who existed back then, or perhaps nothing more than a Biblical story, or is it indeed relevant to those who exist today?

Biblical scripture taken out of the context it is presented in, is a big problem these days. I'm sure that if you were to look into that particular quote contained in the Qu'ran, you might find that there is some context that puts a whole different light on it.

Three good quotes:

This is one of the saddest days in my life. He is a man who knows Libya very well, before and after [the revolution]. He was the man who stood by the Libyan people. He was the right man, in the right place, at the right time. It is a great loss for the Libyan people.

. Libyan Ambassador Ali Suleiman Aujali

We apologize to the U.S., and to the American people and to the government, and to the rest of the world for what happened yesterday.

. GNC Ruling Party Leader Mohammed Al-Megaryef

The Quran states explicitly that no soul shall be responsible for the sins or the crimes of another. And while this film is indeed offensive, and those who have done this have done this deliberately to offend Muslims, we should not kill innocent people.

. Imam Feisal Abdul Rauf

Again - degage - careful.

The most recent information is that the film's origin may be from a group of Evangelical Christians and Coptic Christians with Egyption roots.

In contrast, Terry Jones was quoted as saying it was OK by him if innocent people die because of this. I wouldn't judge all Christians by his opinions.

To be clear: if the films origins turn out to be true, it would be no more fair to blame those two religious denominations for the actions of a few - than it is to blame a billion adherents of Islam for the idiocy of a few.

TOES02800 wrote: "Yeah, Romney's so desperate because he's 20 points behind Obama in the polls. Not."

Romney/Ryan are still lagging in the polls where it counts.

Obama will win Massachusetts, the state where Mitt Romney resides.

Obama will likley win Michigan, where Mitt Romney was born.

Obama will likely win Wisconsin -- Paul Ryan's home turf.

Obama has a fairly strong lead in Nevada, New Hampshire, and Ohio.

Obama has a slight lead in Colorado, Iowa, and Virginia.

Romney has a fairly strong lead in North Carolina.

Romney has a slght lead in Florida.

It takes 270 electoral votes to win the Presidency. If the election were held today, President Obama would likely be awarded 293 electoral votes, and Mitt Romney would receive 235.

The above figures are not the result of one or two polls. They are an averaging of the results of 36 polls taken every week in the remaining undecided areas of the country considered to be "swing states."

I'm not worried a bit at this point about the election. The next hurdle will come in early October, when the two top dogs face each other in debate.

Mitt Romney will not have the luxury of getting away with taking pot shots behind the President's back on that day. On that day, President Barack Obama will shine like a new penny. Mitt Romney will be mopping up the floor, just as he has done in all his other debates.

There is a valuable role for the "Loyal Opposition" in democracy. To be effective, the opposition must know when to launch critiques - and when to stand together.

Any day a U.S. Embassy is attacked is the day we all stand together.

Mitt showed either a lack of loyalty or a lack of clear judgment.

Either fault makes him supremely unqualified to lead the country.

degage wrote: "Al, christians are being persecuted in those countrys that are majority muslim and you know it, but really don't want to admit it."

We have no control over what goes on in other countries. Christians in this country are not persecuted in this country. Muslims are being persecuted in this country, although in a different manner than Christian persecution in other countries.

The anti-muslim persecution in this country is not being conducted by our Gov't. It is being performed by our citizens. Protests over the mosque in Murphreesboro and the Muslim community center a block away from Ground Zero are two very good examples of what I am referring to.

"The muslims say their feelings are hurt, that doesn' excuse them for what has happened in the past, and present."

Look, there are a lot of pissed off people around the world, who blame the United States for the deaths of their loved ones -- casualties of war if you will, and they want payback.

You cannot begin to imagine what is in the hearts of those who want to harm us, because you have never experienced the invasion of a military force that has killed innocent lives who were near and dear to you. Do you ever ponder for a moment, that which the United States has done over the past several incursions that our military has waded into?

I don't offer that as an excuse, but I do understand why there are people who want revenge against this nation, and you and I are in danger due to the actions of our leaders, who have a horrible case of Pinnochio nose.

"Past I'm talking about beheadings because their koran says kill the infedel."

I'll ask you the same question. Have you ever verified that the passage exists in the Qu'ran, or are you taking someone else's word that it exists as written?

"You want to blame everything on christians when most of the mess is caused by extremist islam."

I have not blamed Christians for this mess at all. I do blame peope who are so ignorant, that they persecute an entire religion that has been bastardized by a few.

"You seem to think like Obama that we should have sympathy for those who attacked. BULL."

You're reading what you want to read. I have in no manner, ever suggested that I have any sympathy for those who attacked us.

Understanding what creates the hatred that leads them to do it, is a big first step in changing one's mind that going to war is a good thing.

Be careful, you are sounding a lot like Ron Paul. Why have we ever been involved in middle east affairs. Could it be our commitment to defend them if they were reliable suppliers of oil to us? If it were not for oil what reason would we have for a presence in the area?

The fact is we are there. There should be a commitment to take no less than 1,000 lives or more for each American killed or crippled by the terrorist or attackers without concern for collateral damage.
