Former mayoral candidate and onetime Chattanooga Parks and Recreation administrator Rob Healy has formed an exploratory committee for a mayoral run next year, according to a news release.

Issued today, the news release does not indicate when Healy plans to announce his intentions, but he said he has submitted paperwork to the Hamilton County Election Commission.

If he chooses to run, he'll focus on public safety, incentives for small business and "restoring trust" in city government with fiscal responsibility, according to the release.

Healy ran for Chattanooga's highest political office in 2009, but lost to Mayor Ron Littlefield, whose second and final term expires next year. Littlefield fired Healy from his Parks and Recreation position in 2006, according to newspaper archives.

State Sen. Andy Berke, D-Chattanooga, is the only confirmed mayoral candidate for the March 2013 elections.
