Shooting victim dies, Chattanooga police launch saturation arrests after 4 shootings

Monday, September 24, 2012

After four shootings that left two men dead, Chattanooga police saturated high-crime neighborhoods over the weekend.

The result was 34 arrests, 10 of which were felonies, and a total of 11 gang members were arrested. Police interviewed 43 gang members, executed six arrest warrants and confiscated two guns.

The two fatal shootings are related to each other, one a retaliation for the first, police say.

On Wednesday, Barry Bowman was shot in the head and taken to Parkridge Hospital in a personal vehicle. Bowman, 22, was shot at 6317 Walden Ave. and later died.

On Saturday morning, 20-year-old Quincy Bell was shot and killed while driving in the 3800 block of Shallowford Road. He managed to drive about a quarter of a mile to a gas station where he died inside a Toyota Camry. Police say he was a documented member of the Bloods gang.

Despite the recent wave of violence, Chattanooga still has three fewer shootings compared to the same time last year. To date, there have been 61 shootings resulting in injury or death investigated by Chattanooga police.

There have been two less homicides compared to the same time in 2011. To date, police have investigated 18 homicides.
