Westinghouse taps new leader

Westinghouse Electric Co. announced Wednesday that it has appointed Danny Roderick as president and chief executive officer. He succeeds Shigenori Shiga, who had served as interim president and CEO since April and will remain as company chairman.

Roderick, formerly senior vice president for GE-Hitachi Nuclear Energy, previously worked in top positions with Progress Energy Florida and Entergy Nuclear.

"Westinghouse is clearly the recognized industry pioneer and technology leader, and I pledge that we will continue to make the investments in customer service and technology and product development that will enable us to maintain our global leadership position," Roderick said in a statement.

Westinghouse supplied the world's first pressurized water reactor in 1957 in Shippingport, Pa., and its technology or equipment is in about half of the world's operating nuclear plants.
