Unum Corp. CEO Tom Watjen took home more than $13.8 million in compensation in 2012, up nearly $1.6 million from the previous year. In the company's proxy statement for its May 23 annual meeting, Unum said it increased by 12.9 percent the total salary, benefits, stock options and long-term pension benefits paid to Watjen last year.
Fortwood Center changes owner
Fortwood Center Inc. got a new owner and leader on Monday. Fortwood, founded in 1946 as the state's oldest mental health center, merged Monday with the Knoxville-based Helen Ross McNabb Center Inc. Fortwood will keep its name, facilities and staff, although Fortwood CEO Earl Medley retired on Monday after more than 25 years with Fortwood. Mona Blanton-Kitts, a vice president for the McNabb Center, will serve as interim director of Fortwood while the center searches for a new director.
The McNabb Center, has grown to serve nearly 12,000 children, adult and families a year from its 27 locations.
