In an effort to present a more unified look for its athletic teams, Georgia unveiled new uniforms Tuesday.

Georgia's athletic association worked closely with Nike the past 15 months to establish a brand identity that would be consistent across the board. The most notable change to the football uniforms is that jersey numbers now will be rounded off instead of having the more traditional block appearance.

"We are excited about this program whose guidelines embrace the history and tradition of Georgia athletics and positions the Georgia brand to reach a continually expanding and evolving audience," athletic director Greg McGarity said. "This program will also bring a more consistent look to our logos, uniforms, field markings and other areas where our marks are displayed."

McGarity made clear it was not a rebranding process and that the "G" would continue to be the university's primary logo. The school unveiled a new Bulldog logo in which the mascot is wearing a spiked chain with a "G" on the front.

Bulldogs football players will be donning the Nike Pro Combat style uniforms they wore in the 2011 opening loss to Boise State in Atlanta, except they will retain their familiar appearance. Georgia still will wear red jerseys at home with white numbers trimmed in black, while the road white jerseys will continue to have black numbers with red trim.

In addition to being rounded off, the jersey numbers will be larger.

"I feel great in them," quarterback Aaron Murray said. "When you put them on you feel like you're not wearing much. It's a lot more flexible and breathable. I really enjoy wearing them."

Bulldogs practice

Georgia held its final full-pads practice before Saturday's G-Day spring game. The Bulldogs will work out again Thursday and Friday leading up to G-Day, which will be held at Sanford Stadium beginning at 1 p.m.

The offense has 10 of 11 starters back from last season, but that hasn't prevented a lot of movement up front.

"We've rotated a bunch," coach Mark Richt said. "We're experimenting right now. A guy like Xzavier Ward has really come along, so we might give him some shots at right tackle and move [John] Theus over to left. You've got [Mark] Beard and [Kenarious] Gates that can play tackle, but maybe they can play guard.

"We're trying to find who our best five is for next year. We know we don't have [Chris] Burnette practicing right now, but chances are he'll line up at number one when he's back."
