Volunteers clean up Chattanooga

Friday, January 1, 1904

Volunteers collected 1,500 bags of trash and scrubbed graffiti off 20 buildings or monuments around town Saturday.

The effort was part of Clean and Green, a River City Co. program in which about 750 volunteers clean up trash and take part in projects like the planting of a community garden at the 21st Century Child Development and Learning Center. Volunteers worked at the City Center, Riverfront, Southside, M.L. King Boulevard-University of Tennessee at Chattanooga area, Northshore, Fort Wood, Glass Farms, Glenwood, Highland Park, Hill City, North Creek and Orchard Knob.

Volkswagen Chattanooga sponsored the program.
