NASHVILLE - Tennesseans in 2014 will decide whether to ban a state income tax after the House gave final approval to a proposed amendment to the Tennessee Constitution prohibiting the levy.

The chamber on Monday voted 88-8 for the resolution, sponsored by Republican Caucus Chairman Glen Casada of Franklin.

Tennessee has no general state income tax. But proponents note two previous governors - one a Republican and the other a Democrat - have pushed for such a levy in the past.
