Heritage senior cross country standout Natalie Espinoza-Hensley recently signed to continue her running career at new area NAIA member Dalton State College.

Espinoza is a two-time Best of Preps honoree who helped the Lady Generals win the 2011 Georgia Class AAA state championship. She was the 2011 Region 7-AAA region champion, placing ninth in the state meet.

"I'm really proud of her," Heritage coach Jeremy Wynne said in a news release. "Natalie is a hard worker who will help the Roadrunners from the beginning."

Margie Bruner, who was named DSC's cross country coach in December, agreed that Espinoza-Hensley, who also competed for the Baylor Swim Club, has a chance to make an immediate impact.

"We're so excited to have someone of her caliber," Bruner said. "She's competitive, driven and motivated. I think she is going to add a lot to our team and the attitude of our team. She is just a great kid who likes to be active and is a good student."

Rotary updates

GPS senior Mary Claire Spann will be "good to go," according to coach Sue Bartlett, Wednesday afternoon when the tennis Bruisers take on Baylor. Spann suffered from dehydration caused by a sinus infection last Friday afternoon during the Rotary tennis tournament. She was given a couple of bags of IV fluids and sat out the rest of the weekend.

Teammate Emma McCallie suffered an injury Saturday morning in a championship match against Baylor's Samantha Caswell, and although she could have continued, Bartlett held her out as a precautionary measure.

Chattanooga Christian's Emmie Cornell sprained an ankle during a consolation match in the B division of the tournament. The Lady Chargers face Lookout Valley this afternoon.
