Strategy: Kelley says the new restaurant hopes to attract downtown workers, UTC students and nearby residents with a menu of sandwiches and other entrees. The two sister owners have been lifelong cooks and prepare all of the food.

Background: Halfacre lost her job last year with Olan Mills where she had worked for 33 years when the headquarters complex closed after the company's sale. Kelley had previously run a child-care center and was interested in opening a restaurant. "We decided we should go for it, and we're having a lot of fun," Kelley says. "Most of our business is takeout and, by the grace of God, so far we're doing great."
