The new water park is not quite ready, but a longtime favorite place for summer fun will welcome visitors this weekend.

Lake Winnepesaukah Amusement Park, 1730 Lakeview Drive in Rossville, will open the gates for its 88th season Saturday and Sunday, April 13-14. The park will be open noon-8 p.m. both days, as well as remaining Saturdays and Sundays in April.

The park starts its four-day schedule on Thursday, May 2, and adds Mondays on Memorial Day, May 27. Starting June 5, the park also will be open Wednesdays for a six-day week during the summer.

The water park, Soak Ya, will be ready for business on Friday, May 24. The five-acre water entertainment complex is the first major expansion of the park since the 1960s, according to park officials.

While construction continues, the Tour Train and Oh-Zone will not be in operation in April.

The North Georgia attraction has rides of all thrill levels, from the exhilarating (Cannon Ball roller coaster and Fire Ball inversion ride) to the leisurely (Carousel and Antique Cars).

There's also Stay & Play Hideaway, an interactive play area for guests of all ages; Chill Down Kidtown, featuring interactive misters and water elements; and the Runaround Playground, offering slides, activities, towers and ladders for young visitors.

The Jukebox Junction Stage will come alive with free Sunday concerts by Colt Ford on May 19 and Confederate Railroad on Sept. 22.

While Soak Ya is open, admission to Lake Winnie will include both attractions.
