Chattem unveils Allegra cream

Chattanooga-based Chattem Inc. put an extension to its popular Allegra allergy medicine on store shelves last week.

Allegra Anti-Itch Cooling Relief Cream and Allegra Anti-Itch Intensive Relief Cream are available in drug, grocery and mass merchandiser stores nationwide, said the company, which is the consumer health care division of drug giant Sanofi.

Both products provide temporary relief from the pain and itching associated with insect bites, minor skin irritations, sunburn, rashes due to poison ivy, poison oak or poison sumac, and minor cuts and scrapes, according to Chattem.

"We identified an opportunity in the topical anti-itch category and leveraged our experience with Allegra Allergy," said John Stroud, Chattem's executive vice president of marketing, in a statement.
