Lee to host poster symposium

CLEVELAND, Tenn. - Lee University's Science and Mathematics Poster Symposium will be held from 4 to 5:30 p.m. Tuesday on the third floor of the Science and Math Complex.

Science and mathematics majors will present posters of research they have collected over the course of the semester. Presenters will include representatives from classes such as biochemistry synthesis and molecular biology, genetics, physics, mathematical modeling and biology senior seminar.

"We invite the community -- and especially high school students interested in pursuing undergraduate majors in the sciences or mathematics -- to attend our poster session," said Dr. Lori West, associate professor of biology.

Missing child found in pool

AUGUSTA, Ga. - The body of a missing 8-year-old child in Richmond County was found in a pool.

The Richmond County Sheriff's Office reported that a dive team found the body of Jon Stevens in a pool at a residence in Hephzibah about 1:30 a.m. Sunday. The Augusta Chronicle reported that his mother contacted authorities about 9:30 p.m. Saturday. She said he had been visiting friends but hadn't been seen for several hours.

Deputies began a search of the area and discovered the body in the pool.

Historic cemetery looted; reward set

WAYNESBORO, Ga. - A $2,000 reward is being offered for information leading to an arrest in the looting of graves in a historic cemetery near Waynesboro.

Sgt. Sean Cochran of the Burke County Sheriff's Office said the desecration of Old Church Cemetery was discovered Saturday when someone showed up to mow the grass. He said the graves are very old and include veterans of the Revolutionary War and Civil War. He said part of an old uniform was found on the ground and an infant's casket was removed.

The cemetery is under the care of American Legion Post 120. Post Cmdr. Roy Bell told The Augusta Chronicle that the post is accepting donations to increase the reward.

Toadlick Music Festival thrives

DOTHAN, Ala. - Organizers of the Toadlick Music Festival in Dothan say they are pleased with how the three-day event turned out and the crowds it drew.

Event coordinator Chris Mendez labeled it "absolutely awesome." Rain interrupted the opening night Thursday, but good weather prevailed Friday and Saturday.

Toadlick was one of two large music festivals held in Southeast Alabama last year. Organizers of the BamaJam music festival in Enterprise announced Friday that it's been put on hold for this year.
