Yusuf Hakeem elected Chattanooga City Council chairman

In its first order of business, Chattanooga's new City Council unanimously elected Yusuf Hakeem as chairman Monday night.

Chip Henderson unanimously was elected vice chairman.

Terms of the chairman and vice chairman are one year.

Hakeem asked council member Carol Berz to continue her work as head of the budget committee, noting that budget season is approaching.

In addition, council members Jerry Mitchell and Ken Smith will look into the opportunity to live stream committee and council meetings, Hakeem said. The public, he said, should be able to watch the discussion and debate among council members, especially in committee meetings.
