When are you gun defenders ever going to acknowledge that the issue about gun control is not anyone claiming that guns are to blame for any shooting?

People using guns intentionally, carelessly, negligently, and accidentally, are the problem. Not everyone should be allowed to have legal access to owning a weapon.

It is a problem of people having access to certain types of weapons that are used as tools for them to carry out their evil intent.

Yesterday's vote in the Senate was not to take away one weapon from anyone. It was a vote to restrict legal purchases of guns by those who should not have them.

Seems to me that all you legal weapon owners would be on board with expanded background checks, as a means to keep all of us safe.

I might be wrong, but aren't many of you the same ones who are avidly against illegal immigrants and totally against rubber stamping those immigrants that are already here in the states?

I believe that I've even seen some of you upset because many of the immigrants are criminals in their native countries. Many of them have committed crimes here in the U.S.

Why the inconsistency?

Why is it so unfathomable to some of you to check the background of someone who is attempting to purchase a tool that is solely produced and intended to end life, yet so easy to support a similar background check for the right to live in the United States?

ANOTHER MORONIC GUN OWNER STRIKES!!!

7-year old Gavin Brummett was with his father and brother, handling a gun on their rural, Salina, Kansas property, when he unintentionally shot himself in the head. He died soon after.

Saline County Sheriff’s officials said that’s when Brummett’s father heard two shots and saw that Gavin had shot himself. He was rushed to Salina Regional Health Center, and then airlifted to Wesley Medical Center in Wichita, where he died. Deputies say the incident highlights the importance of extreme caution with firearms–especially around children.

“Just the basic firearm safety,” Rick Heinrich of the Saline County Sheriff’s Office said. “Where the parents are with the child and supervising very closely watching what they do and working with them and having that close parental supervision right there with them.”

The bullet exited the house through a wall, traveled 50 yards, and hit Shayla May in the face. She soon died from her wound.

No charges have been filed.

Let's be clear - background checks are actually one of the few things uniting the country right now. The vast majority of gun owners are asking for them as well as those who do not own guns. A responsible gun owner understands all too well the risks when someone who is severely mentally ill or engaged in criminal behavior has weapons.

Sadly, the Senate would rather keep a few dollars in its pockets from the gun lobby than listen to the American people.

judge jesse...Just because you lack the ability or the common sense to see the truth, even when it kicks you in the butt, does not mean that one side or the other does not have a handle on the truth, at least some of the time. Being an "independent" or whatever you like to call yourself does not put you any closer to the truth than anyone else.

Case in point: to JR's comment that he made ("If this is in fact al Qaeda Mr. Obama and his sidekick Biden need to resign and get the hell out of D.C.”), I made the comment, in my own facetious way, that Bush was an abject failure in the "war on terror." Tell me what it is about what I said that is not the truth. He had almost 2 full terms of his presidency to capture bin Laden but he failed to do so. He lied and deceived his way into the Iraq war and he failed miserably in carrying it out. And it is a FACT that we had intelligence prior to 9/11 that there was going to be a terrorist attack on American soil but he was blind, deaf, and dumb to that intelligence. If you say that anything I said above is not truthful you are either a liar or you are simply stupid beyond belief. Or both. Most likely it’s both.

I don’t wear my intelligence like some green beret. I’m smarter than some, maybe, and not as smart as others. I know my limitations. But the way you now take sides and state your opinion of him being smarter than me is so obvious. You played nice in the sandbox for a little while so now you’re more apt to align yourself with the one who played nice with you. But I couldn’t care less about playing nice with you. Bullshi!t. The total number of people killed on a bicycle in 2010 was 618. Only 11% of those killed were under age 16. That equates to about 68 child deaths.

Really!?

Despite all yours, and others, faux and idealistic, uninformed and emotional calls for passage; and despite the fact that many seem to believe that something should be law NOW simply because ‘the vast majority of Americans’ support it, not every issue deserves such knee jerk decisions. If the need for gun control (and that IS the underlying theme) is predicated chiefly on polls taken immediately after a traumatic event, I support the recent justification to…slow things down.

Whether you like it or not, this concerns the Constitution — where stuff was written down for a reason. I’m not saying that expanding background checks or banning “assault rifles” would be unconstitutional (though you undoubtedly believe they should be). I’m saying that when you begin meddling with protections explicitly laid out in the ‘Bill of Rights’, anything that slows down an ideological stampede is prudent.

Remember, the Founders worried that “some common impulse of passion” could lead the many to subvert the ‘rights’ of the few. It’s a rational fear. They were some pretty smart men, and I for one am not willing to second guess this wisdom.

”Your "constitutional right" can be repealed. Keep up the recklessness.” In this I commend you for at the very least admitting that your (and quite a few posting here) ultimate objective is removal of firearms from the public and the repeal of one of the ‘Bill of Rights’.

However; are you willing to chance a Constitutional convention to further such misguided aims? Keep in mind; once convened any and all rights are open for interpretation. Which ones are you willing to modify or repeal - Just the ones YOU don’t like.

Maybe members of your fraternity should think before they speak. After all, ”Your "constitutional right" can be repealed" too!

limric,

I know this may come as a surprise, but my old 105mm and Ma Deuce probably sent more rounds down range before lunch than you will fire in a lifetime. I do not wish to see the 2nd Amendment be repealed, nor do I want to see AR-15s banned. I do want to see gun owners be more responsible and stop being puppets to the NRA and gun manufacturers.

Gun owners must present a little more empathy to America and play a more active role in curing what ails us. Otherwise, mothers everywhere will team up against us and then we have a real problem.

There are two types of gun owners. Responsible ones and irresponsible ones. Leaving guns unsecured is just downright RECKLESS!!! That one simple act would have stopped Sandy Hook and all the other children that die needlessly. It is simple. The NRA does nothing to promote this concept that every soldier knows. Not securing a weapon that is not in your personal possession will result in severe consequences in the military. Why are gun owners any different?

Tifosi,

As an SDM in a place far far away and a long time ago, I became somewhat familiar with the M2 (Ma Deuce). The M101-not so much. It was, as I remember, REALLY EFFING LOUD!! I doubt however you have sent more rounds down range before lunch than I have fired in a lifetime. (paraphrased)

I think I can justifiably say that the tenor of all your other posts directly contradict your last one. Hmm.

” There are two types of gun owners. Responsible ones and irresponsible ones.” Ok, true enough, but I must reiterate something I’ve said before in relation to the following statement: ” That one simple act would have stopped Sandy Hook and all the other children that die needlessly” is a deflection of blame; a misguided emotional response not based in logic nor is it related to the crime. THE MOTHER DID NOT COMMIT THE CRIME!

As a range safety officer in a gun club of which I’m a member, I disagree with your contention that, ” The NRA does nothing to promote this concept that every soldier knows.” We work with the NRA ALL THE TIME promoting firearm safety. Thus, I find your claim a tad empty.

That being said; I am a firm believer that there are no ‘accidents’ per se with guns. There are only careless mistakes. And you being a veteran (may I assume so?) you know this to be the case even in the military. Ever see someone after being caught in a LAW’s back blast? It ain’t pretty.

Nighty night.

tifosi, I read what you're sayin,' but if the newsfolks have it right, Adam Lanza'a mother did have her guns in a safe, but Adam had full access to the gun safe.

He bumped her off and went for the guns.

If correct, nothing proposed in he most recent Senate attempt to raise the bar on background checks would have prevented Sandy Hook.

Adam Lanza might not have passed a background check, but there is nothing now or proposed that would have prevented his mother from passing a background check and to purchase her weapons, as she did.

There are no easy answers and it doesn't look like any are coming down the pike anytime soon.

Oh Dear,

”The mother could have prevented it. I have seen nothing to indicate that her guns were in a safe.” There is also no evidence indicating they were not in the safe either. Quote: ”Investigators found a gun safe belonging to Nancy Lanza, the shooter's mother, open and with no evidence that it had been broken into.” Conclusion??

Again, you’re engaging in deflection; based on an internalized and inconsistent paradox. And; as Alprova said last night, ”He (Adam Lanza) bumped her off and went for the guns.” Put another way, Adam Lanza shot and killed his mother at their home before going on his rampage at the school. Therefore the mother could not have prevented the massacre; Invalidating the paradox. Thus, ”The mother could have prevented it” substitutes supposition for valid consistent/verifiable fact; Just like religion.

By the way, the following statement is directly from Alprova’s link to the Daily News report By Matthew Lysiak and Larry Mcshane. ”There is no record of a member relationship between Newtown killer Adam Lanza, nor between Nancy Lanza, A. Lanza or N. Lanza with the National Rifle Association, the NRA said.” ” Reporting to the contrary is reckless, false and defamatory.”

When considering your maneuvering; the statement, ” I have met with a regional NRA representative that indicated securing a firearm was not important.” doesn’t hold much credibility.

Try as they will, Zebras can’t change their stripes.

This subject has been exhausted in this forum and by Mr. Bennett. It’s like beating a dead horse. Time to move on.

And here we go...

10 - You can trade an old 44 for a new 22.

9 - You can keep one gun at home and have another for when you're on the road.

8 - If you admire a friend's gun and tell him so, he will probably let you try it out a few times.

7 - Your primary gun doesn't mind if you keep another gun for a backup.

6 - Your gun will stay with you even if you run out of ammo.

5 - A gun doesn't take up a lot of closet space.

4 - Guns function normally every day of the month.

3 - A gun doesn't ask, "Do these new grips make me look fat?"

2 - A gun doesn't mind if you go to sleep after you use it.

And the Number One reason Why Men Prefer Guns over women.....

1 - You can buy a silencer for a gun

To which I’m sure someone in Vegas has already started a bullet wound count pool.

There are other possibilities. Dzhokhar was wounded during last night’s shootout, crawled sobbing and wounded into a dark corner of some basement - bled out – and died.
Or he has somehow escaped. Not likely but still.

I hope the can take him alive. There are a lot of questions that need to be asked.

As an assist to liberal readers here are some recent posts documenting how various left-wing media figures sought to blame the bombing on conservatives:

MSNBC’s Lawrence O’Donnell Blames NRA For Slowing Down Investigation In Boston Bombing

NPR Heavily Hints Boston Was Bombed by 'Anti-Government Right-Wing Individuals' Who Love Hitler

Boston Bombing: NYT Reports, National Journal Speculates On 'Right-Wing, Antigovernment Extremist Groups'

CNN Claims Pressure Cooker Bombs Somehow ‘Signature’ of Extreme Right Terrorists

Actual Salon Headline: 'Let’s Hope the Boston Marathon Bomber Is a White American'

MSNBC Brings On Harvard Professor to Speculate ‘Far Right’ May Be Responsible For Boston Attack

In light of the absurd statements referenced above, might it be time for the left to begin speculating about how the radical left and radical Islam is to blame for the next terrorist event? It has been nearly 20 years since Oklahoma City and there hasn't been a second coming of Timothy McVeigh.

"According to preliminary information, coming from the relevant agencies, the Tsarnaev family moved many years ago out of Chechnya to another Russian region," press secretary Alvi Kamirov told Interfax. "After that they lived for some time in Kazakhstan, and from there went to the U.S. where the family members received a residence permit."

Several posts on what is believed to be the Twitter profile of accused Boston Marathon bomber Dzhokhar Tsarnaev indicate that that the 19-year-old Chechnyan immigrant was a supporter of Barack Obama in the 2012 presidential election.

This completely reverses the fantasy that many American liberals were openly hoping for: that the bombing suspects might be revealed as Timothy McVeigh 2.0, someone whose very name they could use to smear and deride anyone who stands against their belief system. In other words, one of those “dog whistles” we keep hearing so much about.

Several news agencies have tracked down a Twitter account which is believed to belong to Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, the younger of the two brothers whom the FBI has identified as the people responsible for a pressure cooker bomb which killed three people and injured nearly 150.

Besides making an apparent joke at the expense of the victims who were killed in the blast (“Lol those people are cooked”) the owner of the account made clear his political preferences as he celebrated the reelection of President Obama on November 6th.

Regardless of how the media is spinning this, I think it's a silly waste of time for lefties and righties to throw stones at each other over what has happened. Anyone who is malicious enough and screwed up enough to kill and injure innocent people in the name of whatever belief or cause they adhere to is not really representative of any cause or ideology other than their own lunacy and depravity. From what little I know about the two suspects so far, they appear to be loose cannons, losers, young rebels without a cause. Surely we'll have a clearer understanding of their motives eventually but in the meantime these barbs that are going back and forth based on pure speculation are ridiculous.

Rickaroo you are an idiot with the mentality of a child. You are way behind the news curve if you think these two dung heaps were not inspired, motivated, and trained by radical Islamic terrorists. You are an embarrassment and actually quite sad. Young rebels without a cause spending time on Alkaida websites and praying five times a day! Once again we are at war and always will be unless we understand that Radical Islam is a culture that must be destroyed in the same way we destroyed the cultures of Imperialist Japan and Nazi Germany.

Congress is probably quietly and quickly developing bipartisan legislation that expands their control and reducing peoples choices in their every day lives.

I hope the suspect is taken alive soon. The media is going ape with speculation while showing the same scene over and over and asking the same questions in more ways than you can count. The networks are scared to death another network may get a tidbit they didn't get. Their dad claims they were framed and the police plan is to kill them.

Regardless, the wild speculations from both sides, before all the information is in, has been downright silly and useless. As for your opinion of me...frankly, dear sir, I don't give a damn. I received this response from the White House today:

Dear "tifosi" (obviously substituted for my real name out of fear from violent reactions of RWNJs):

Thank you for taking the time to write, and for your service and sacrifice. I have heard from many Americans regarding firearms policy and gun violence in our Nation, and I appreciate your perspective. From Aurora to Newtown to the streets of Chicago, we have seen the devastating effects gun violence has on our American family. I join countless others in grieving for all those whose lives have been taken too soon by gun violence.

Like the majority of Americans, I believe the Second Amendment guarantees an individual right to bear arms. In this country, we have a strong tradition of gun ownership that has been handed down from generation to generation. Hunting and sport shooting are part of our national heritage. Yet, even as we acknowledge that almost all gun owners in America are responsible, when we look at the devastation caused by gun violence—whether in high-profile tragedies or the daily heartbreak that plagues our cities—we must ask ourselves whether we are doing enough.

While reducing gun violence is a complicated challenge, protecting our children from harm should not be a divisive one. Most gun owners agree that we can respect the Second Amendment while keeping an irresponsible, law-breaking few from inflicting harm on a massive scale. Most also agree that if we took commonsense steps to curtail gun violence, there would be fewer atrocities like the one that occurred in Newtown. We will not be able to stop every violent act, but if there is even one thing we can do to reduce gun violence—if even one life can be saved—then we have an obligation to try.

That is why I asked Vice President Joe Biden to identify concrete steps we can take to keep our children safe, help prevent mass shootings, and reduce the broader epidemic of gun violence in this country. He met with over 200 groups representing a broad cross-section of Americans and heard their best ideas. I have put forward a specific set of proposals based off of his efforts, and in the days ahead, I intend to use whatever weight this office holds to make them a reality.

My plan gives law enforcement, schools, mental health professionals, and the public health community some of the tools they need to help reduce gun violence. These tools include strengthening the background check system, helping schools hire more resource officers and counselors and develop emergency preparedness plans, and ensuring mental health professionals know their options for reporting threats of violence. And I directed the Centers for Disease Control to study the best ways to reduce gun violence—because it is critical that we understand the science behind this public health crisis. From improving mental health services to looking more closely at a culture that too often glorifies violence, we must leave no stone unturned when working to keep Americans safe.

As important as these steps are, they are not a substitute for action from Congress. To make a real and lasting difference, members of Congress must also act. As part of my comprehensive plan, I have called on them to pass some specific proposals right away. First, it is time to require a universal background check for anyone trying to buy a gun. Second, Congress should renew the 10-round limit on magazines and reinstate and strengthen the assault weapons ban. We should get tougher on those who buy guns with the purpose of selling them to criminals, and we should impose serious punishments on anyone who helps them do this.

These are reasonable, commonsense measures that have the support of the majority of the American people. But change will not come unless the American people demand it from their lawmakers. Now is the time to do the right thing for our children, our communities, and the country we love. We owe the victims of heartbreaking national tragedies and the countless unheralded tragedies each year nothing less than our best effort—to seek consensus in order to save lives and ensure a brighter future for our children.

Thank you, again, for writing. I encourage you to visit www.WhiteHouse.gov/NowIsTheTime to learn more about my Administration’s approach.

Sincerely,

Barack Obama

19 and 26 year old men are not kids, alprova dumbass. Well it looks like they have arrested suspect number two. In case you were not aware, the two terrorists, one which hopefully will be tried and executed soon, were part of a family (Mother and 3 sisters) that were graciously given political asylim by our great country and also allowed to collect welfare. The family received federal housing assistance, educational grants, and food stamps. The mother of the two terrorists, one is already in hell, is a convicted felon, she was arrested for shoplifting $1600 worth of clothes from Lord & Taylor. Funny that it was Lord & Taylor cameras that helped nail her sons. It just goes to show that no good deed goes unpunished. Really, really trashy, disgusting, gangster family that mooched off America and ultimately terrorized the city of Boston. Also the FBI interviewed the older son in 2010 due to concerns about his radical Islamic leanings. More to come on that story. Looks like the FBI dropped the ball in 2010.

You're so full of crap. The family were all quite self-supporting immigrants. Both of the parents were practicing lawyers in their own home countries.

"The family received federal housing assistance, educational grants, and food stamps."

Absolute bunk.

"The mother of the two terrorists, one is already in hell, is a convicted felon, she was arrested for shoplifting $1600 worth of clothes from Lord & Taylor."

I see you've been reading The Blaze...about as credible as Infowars...

The woman arrested with the Cambridge, Massachusetts address is most likely not the mother of the two men. She may related in some manner to them, but the mother of the two men was interviewed in Russia yesterday.

"Funny that it was Lord & Taylor cameras that helped nail her sons."

Oh brother...

"Really, really trashy, disgusting, gangster family that mooched off America and ultimately terrorized the city of Boston."

You've got it all figured out, eh? Something tells me that all of your presumptions are going to blow up in your face, like all the other pathetic lies you are known for posting in this forum.

"Also the FBI interviewed the older son in 2010 due to concerns about his radical Islamic leanings. More to come on that story. Looks like the FBI dropped the ball in 2010."

The conspiracy websites are really working overtime on this one, and there you are lapping it up like a dog.
