Keo-Kio, McCallie School's senior leadership organization, inducted 12 rising seniors during a recent ceremony.
One of the school's oldest organizations, Keo-Kio is instrumental in planning annual events such as the winter dance and Duck Day and supporting new campus activities. The group also raises funds and distributes them to events and efforts of other campus organizations.
Honored day students were Tommy Ellis, Ralston Hartness, Hamilton Heald, Roger Lee, Jonathan McKown, Thomas West, and Bassem Salama of Dalton, Ga.
Honored boarding students were Parker Brown of San Antonio, Texas; Matthew Mahfood, of Kingston, Jamaica; David Paul, of Durham, N.C.; Grant Rising, of Atlanta; and Ramsay Ritchie, of San Francisco.
Rodney Van Valkenburg, director of grants and initiatives at ArtsBuild, recently served on the Tennessee Arts Commission's 2013 Citizen Advisory Panel in Nashville.
Panelists meet once a year to offer advice on program planning and to review grant applications. Additionally, they serve as resources to the Arts Commission staff as advocates for the arts in their communities.
Panelists must be nominated for consideration. They are required to submit a statement of their qualifications to serve on the advisory panel.
WTVC-TV 9 personality Marcia Kling will be made a lifetime member of the Chattanooga Salvation Army's advisory board on Monday.
The recognition will take place at noon at the Salvation Army, 1019 N. Moore Road. This honor is given to those who've served more than 15 years on the board while displaying outstanding leadership.
Kling became a board member in 1976 and has served 36 years as the Salvation Army's annual Thanksgiving meal home-delivery coordinator. Working alongside her husband, David, they ensure correct preparation, packaging and delivery of hundreds of dinners to the needy in this community, according to Kimberly George, Salvation Army director of marketing.
East Ridge Middle School student Alexander Wilaniskis finished in sixth place out of 101 students at the 2013 Tennessee Geographic Bee in Nashville.
The winner of the Geographic Bee was Adithyan Sujithkumar, a seventh-grader from Robertsville Middle School.
Lee University in Cleveland, Tenn., recently held its annual Lee Day for prospective students and their families. Eight students won scholarships during its annual scholarship drawing.
Rebecca Offutt from Riceville, Tenn., was given a $5,000 scholarship; and Brandon Wall of Mount Juliet , Tenn., received a Sodexo meal plan scholarship.
Winners of $3,000 scholarships were Lorianne Belga of Stockbridge, Ga., Cameron Luna of Thompson's Station, Tenn., Anna McBride of Hot Springs, Ariz., Samuel Wright of Huntsville, Ala., Alyssa Durham of Cleveland, and Jonathan Wooten of Monroe, Va.
